Elite Beat Agents grooving to Europe

iNiS Corporation's quirky DS rhythm game finally gets a release date in the region.

At this year's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Keiichi Yano, cofounder of iNiS Corporation, the makers of Elite Beat Agents, revealed that the original Japanese version of the game would be getting a sequel. Fans of the game were undoubtedly pleased, although gamers in Europe were still wondering whether or not the original would be seen in their countries at all.

Better late than never. Eight months after the game's November release in the US, Nintendo has announced that the wacky rhythm game will be landing in Europe on July 13. The estimated retail price will be around £30 (44 euros).

Elite Beat Agents was a western remake of the very Japanese Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, originally released on the DS in Japan in July 2005. Elite Beat Agents, while staying faithful to the original, made such changes as adding a pop music soundtrack, including songs by Avril Lavigne, David Bowie, and Destiny's Child.

The Elite Beat Agents are a group of men and women in black who combat a variety of emergency situations by dancing. The agents are controlled by tapping on the touch screen in time to the music, topping up an 'elite-o-meter.' If the elite-o-meter is emptied because too many markers have been missed, the mission is a failure and players must try again.

I imported this a few months ago after waiting for so long. Seriously. If most Europeans wanted it, surely they'd have done the same thing by now?

Get over it. This is a minor delay, nothing more. I mean... It's been over 14 years and Mega Man 6 STILL has never legally reached shelves in Europe, for any platform, period. Let's not forget Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG either.

@reactionsok...you seem very confused. Nintendo could've and should've picked up Euro rights to the game ASAP. They didn't. It seems odd to me that Nintendo would want to put a game like this so close to Pokemon's release (27th) which eliminates the idea of this being some kind of intentional release.

Unless there's exclusive content in their version, what's the point?

Nintendo can be so dumb sometimes. how is nintendo dumb? its iNuS who is the developer who decided to re-release the same version. Question - aren't the nintendo DS's region free? I don't see why consumers couldn't just buy it months ago in the 1st place. My DS has 16+ games on it - and i have euro, japanese, and US versions of games that work fine. (USA DS lite owner).

I'm just not going to get angry at Europe getting everything last anymore. It just happens too much to complain now. EBA wasn't a game I 100% wanted so I didn't import it. But I'm getting it when it comes out. 'Bout time we got a date.

what u mean growing market Europe is? Growing? Sometimes i wonder about you kids. The USA has a population just over 300million. Europe has a population over 720 million. Over twice as big. We get 90% of games the same time as the US. And who cares about a DS release, the games are region free for gods sake. Im only 21, but i remember when all movies were released here 9 months after the US. You kids dont know how easy we have it now :D

Well how very generous of them. Now are they going to announce even a DATE for Super Paper Mario? I swear, outside Microsoft no company is paying any attention to the huge, growing market that Europe is.

Exactly. It is an utter joke that it takes 8 months to launch a title in Europe. Metroid Pinball being another that has only recently been flagged for a European launch.

Though its been in the US for a long time I still have yet to buy this gem. It's such a good game I am sorry not to own it yet. As soon as I get finished with Pokemon Diamond, Call of Duty 3 (Wii), and FF6 (GBA) it will be my top priority. So many games, so little time.
