Epic bringing next-gen technology to GDC 2012

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> What a load of rubbish. If anything PC gaming is for the more serious gamers, unlike console gaming where you can just pick up a pad and off you go. Not that I'm some kind of fanboy, I have a high end gaming rig and all three of the current crop of consoles. Boring? Most games now are released on all platforms so if you find pc games boring your probably bored of gaming in general and should find a new hobby.

@amazon09 I played Crysis 2 with hardcore sttings -__-.. I could not do the same with battlefield 3, so i played it in other pc. But those graphics are Good, but should already be the lowest graphics we should get by the end of this year. I want more, I don't know if you do, But i really want a lot more. we had enough of this gen already

@ErDige gtx260 on laptop is a weak card, i think ps3 or xbox360 can beat it, battlefield 3 on PC is a good looking game but console isn't far behind, what consoles are lacking for battlefield 3 is vram, battlefield demands more than 1GB vram on high setting, and i dont see my hd6950 is so much better than my PS3, thats why i said we dont need new console at all

@amazon09 Are you freaking dumb? I like nintendo, but if i get another sistem i'd get an xbox 360... I game on my laptop (i only have a gtx 260 but t's good enough)... And I want this freaking gaming generation over ASAP. I'm tired of the same graphics, the same poor physics, the same textures... The ony 2 games that i REALLY enjoyed WAS CRYSIS 2 AND BATTLEFIELD 3 (ON PC) Becaus fo few moments i felt like I was watcing a movie instead playing a 3d game because of its sunning graphics. I wwant that in every single game! So i want this whole generation over already. I'd love to see wii U's, ps4 and xbox 720 graphics now! I don't want to wait 2 more years for it!!!

Tell ya what, go ahead and game on your $400 pc while the rest of us enjoy top notch games on our 200-300 360's. I'll enjoy my 1500 custom PC for any PC gaming and programming I do, while you run your $400 pc for word processing and playing HL2 at medium settings. Oh, and if you actually think a 400pc can output better graphics and quality than a PS3 or 360 you again just prove how little you know about current tech. Do a little research on why it is that current consoles(that have been out for years on end now) can produce high quality graphics at such a small price. Seriously, no...!!! it wasn't !!!!! 8800gt and 8800 ultra were released in nov 06/07 and they are still much faster than your so call top of the line card 9600gt which was released in 08, so it definitely NOT top of the line card even at its prime!!! Never ever!!In fact 9600gt was a cheap trim down version of geforce 8 series card !!! @crazypunk8 You clearly are uninformed. While PC's will always have superior hardware, consoles of this gen and next gen will perform at the level of a high end PC for a fraction of the cost. The reason is the console hardware is made specifically to pump out games. Every resource (mostly) is dedicated to the current game rather than having to manage multiple background programs like a PC does. So yes, a PC can always outperform a console, but the cost difference is huge. Currently a 200-300 console performs at the same level as a 800-1200 PC. Next Gen will cost 500+ but will perform at the same level as a 2k-3k PC at launch. Not only that, Crysis was the last game that really pushed the limits of gaming to where it could only be played on the PC. Let us all know the next time a game comes out that the consoles cant handle.

@crazypunk8 consoles are all the same. PCs are not. You can play the same bf3 on a $300 xbox(or much cheaper if it's used) you would play on your super uber bajillion dollar PC.

are you people all retarded? UE4 is basically UE3 with a lil updated things. Also CryEngine 2 and 3 are already Next-Gen and look way better than even UE4 will, also forget next gen consoles, they will be outdated right out of the box. PC today kills a "next gen console" easy because of the extreme CPU's and GPU's in High-End Gaming PC's. Crysis and Crysis 2 on PC are still the best looking games on the planet, and always will be.

@amazon09 LOL you are funny. PS3 owners have been burned for years by Sony and only in the past 2 years have good games begun to come out for that system. The Xbox has had quality games in mass since its launch. Xbox owners have been more than satisfied with the system and only PS3 owners such as yourself have your opinion. You clearly have never had an Xbox or you would know that PS3 has simply copied what they can from XBLive. PS3 is behind the 360 in sales, games released on both systems have largely performed better on the 360. Get over yourself because your opinion is 100% fanboy. Clearly I love the 360, but I can be objective and look at the facts of both systems. The PS3 has maybe a couple more years of life left. The 360 is nearing its peak and is time for a new system. This means that the Xbox will have yet another jump start on Sony and should move further ahead in the console wars. Sony messed up with the PS3, take a look at statements by Sony themselves, developers who jumped ship from Sony and install base then make a rational statement or simply say, you are a huge fanboy.

@neotheinstein no i am not a fanboy, i love xbox360 too, i am just surprised that many xbox users wish to have 3rd gen xbox, is it xbox360 not good enough for you all? i really dont know, this isnt an issue for PS3 users as ps3 games and online environment/community are great, and in fact, current higher end graphic isnt much greater than xbox360 at all. i have hd6950 (slightly upgraded from hd5870) so i know.

I really can't wait to hear about UE4 and it's capabilities,i really hope that they've implemented a Real-time GI solution,that enough can be a game changer,i also really hope they haven't revamped the UI too much,boy i can't believe it's happening,i wasn't expecting this to happen for at least another two years!...But i guess as others pointed out it will take some time before we can get our hands on it...can't wait!

A new Engine is always good news. But it's going to take a while to see games running on this beast, so, for now, I'm happy with Unreal 3, CryEngine 3, Frostbite 2 and the like.

@he_GooBear ue3 uses the same nvidia physics technology cry engine does. It's not about the engine, it's about the game.

I can't wait to see what next gen will look like. I'm expecting them to come out with a new franchise to take advantage of this engine, like GOW did for Unreal Engine 3.

Microsoft failed, i can feel the unhappiness amongst xbox360 fans or users, i thought xbox360 was great too, but it seems not, many of xbox360 users wish to have a new console or some of them call it 3rd gen xbox, most PS3 players included myself do not wish to have a new console at all, PS3 is simply amazing ( except YLOD ), i am just speaking truth, nothing against fanboylism, thnak you :)

@professorXzaver Far from that. The Cell Broadband Engine is capable to deliver twenty something GFlops performance, as it was targeted to be between the CPU and the GPU. As of now the GPUs are capable to deliver a few TFlops so based on this the "next-gen" should be able to bring at least 100 times better performance. But as the tech evolves and how fast it does that, the consoles will be already behind at least one generation in GPU when they will be released. If the rumors are true, and the next Xbox will use a HD 6xxx, than it is much likely that it will deliver 2-3 TFlops performance if it will not be pulled back.

Unreal engine has brought us a lot of great games this gen (Gears, Mass Effect, Rainbow Six Vegas) but I really hope they make it easier for developers to create destructable environments like Frostbite. It can make any game so much more interactive.

Is the PS3 suposedly able to do at least 1 TFLOPS ??? So the next Xbox should be able to do at least 2.5 TFLOPS (Samaritan Demo).

@Icehearted I bet looks haven't gotten much better since then. My guess is they are currently working on more behind the scenes stuff to make the engine function better. The sooner next generation consoles get here the better.

Another Unreal Tournament with UE 4??????!?!?!?!?!?

His comment about facebook games reiterates what others were saying about "social" games holding back gaming technology. Hopefully this engine pushes them old consoles hard enough for them to justify going ahead with a next gen sooner.

Will the Engine Make a difference this time I wonder if it will look more realistic but I think for them to have that in this Gen console it will be impossible.

I would like to see this engine debut with a new entry in the Unreal Tournament franchise, which I believe makes the best use of the Unreal engines with its plethora of weapons and vehicles.

Can't wait to see what UE4 can do. Hopefully the next generation consoles are actually powerful enough to max out that engines first iteration... so that it has room to grow with UE4.1 -4.9

The overall Epic's games are great but the stories are horrible, I still don't know if there is a story in Unreal Tournament 3.
