Euro VC walks Streets of Rage
Four more titles for European Wii owners this week, including a beat-'em-up sequel and an Olympic sports game.
First up on this week's European Virtual Console launch slate is Sega's Streets of Rage 2, the 1993 sequel to Streets of Rage. The side-scrolling beat-'em-up, which features a critically acclaimed soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro, sees the once-peaceful city the fighters live in become infested with criminals, and the heroes must fight their way through more than eight levels.
The second title released today is ToeJam and Earl in Panic on Funkotron, also originally released in 1993 by Sega. The side-scrolling platform game has the two quirky aliens saving the planet of Funkotron from invading humans by capturing them in jars and sending them back to Earth. There are also several minigames to play to get bonus points or extra items, including the Fungus Olympics.
Another Sega title is next up this week: Kid Chameleon, a 1992 platform game in which the eponymous main character uses masks to change into a range of characters with different abilities. There are 100 levels to play through while rescuing children from the evil boss called Heavy Metal.
The final title up for grabs this week is Hudson Soft's 1992 World Sports Competition, a summer-Olympics-themed game in which contestants take part in different sports including archery, rowing, shooting, and track events. The title supports up to five players in multiplayer mode.
All this week's games are available for 800 Wii points (approx £5.60), excluding World Sports Competition, which is priced at 600 Wii points (£4.20).
