Now Playing: The 20 Coolest Games Coming to PS4 Pro

Original story: Sony showed off a bunch of games that take advantage of the new PS4 Pro at its recent livestreamed event in New York. The PS4 Pro can enable games to display at 4K resolution, utilize extra graphical effects, and run at smoother frame rates. Additionally, games can benefit whether they're played on 4K or 1080p displays.

Some already-released games will feature PS4 Pro support through updates, while others will come with enhancements out of the box. It's not clear how exactly each game will benefit from the upgraded hardware, but lead architect Mark Cerny did divulge some details on some of the games at the event. We've compiled all the information we currently have and will update this article as we receive more.

For more information and stories, head on over to GameSpot's PS4 Pro news hub.

Batman: Return to Arkham

The compilation pack now has a number of "visual upgrades." [Full story]

Assassin's Creed: Syndicate

An update added 4K support, though a specific list of improvements is unavailable. [Full story]

Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection

The game's day one patch adds "4K dynamic rendering."

Battlezone

The 1.02 patch released on October 27 adds increased supersampling resolution, improved dynamic lighting in the Cobra cockpit, and increased reflective lighting resolution.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

Improved textures and a "dynamic" 4K resolution while maintaining the standard 60 FPS frame rate.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

4K resolution and graphical improvements.

Diablo III

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

4K video output.

The Elder Scrolls Online

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

Increased graphical fidelity running in native 4K resolution.

PS4 Pro with a 1080p display:

Increased graphical fidelity.

Farming Simulator 17

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

Players can choose from several different options, including Ultra HD, which runs at 4K resolution with an unconfirmed frame rate, and Quad HD, which displays the game at 1440p and 60 FPS.

PS4 Pro with a 1080p display:

There's also HD mode, which runs at 1080p but with a 60 FPS frame rate and an improved draw distance.

Get more details here.

Fallout 4

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

Bethesda said it expects the game to "take advantage of the PS4 Pro in 4K along with enhanced lighting and graphics features," but didn't provide any further specifics.

Gran Turismo Sport

HDR and wide color support, making for a larger range of colors. For example, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi said GT Sport will be the first game in the series to accurately represent the Ferrari's classic red color.

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

1800p checkerboard upscaled to 4K.

Hitman

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

Players can expect a "whole new layer of detail added to it." Hitman's overall resolution will be increased, while "reflective surfaces" should be improved, alongside "more detailed lighting effects." Additionally, the game's aliasing will be reduced. Read the full post to learn more.

PS4 Pro with a 1080p display:

Hitman for PS4 Pro will still have "higher quality shading and less flickering highlights" on a 1080p set.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

PS4 Pro with a 1080p display:

Improved shadow maps, extra detail, and enhanced colors. It'll feature higher quality anisotropic filtering, which means upgraded texture sampling, resulting in more detailed environments. Additionally, supersampling will render Horizon's resolution at a resolution "close to 4K" and then shrink it down to 1080p, Guerilla Games says.

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

A 2160p checkerboard, which Guerilla Games says is a technique that "looks incredible" on a 4K display. It's supposed to add noticeable detail to aspects, such as "stitching on Aloy’s outfit, individual leaves and branches swaying in the wind, kilometers away in the distance, and more detail in all the machines and NPCs in the world."

Infamous: Second Son

Support for HDR and 4K televisions.

Get more details here.

Killing Floor 2

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

1800p checkboard rendering on 4K TV (3200x1800) optimized for 4K TVs.

Get more details here.

The Last of Us Remastered

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

Two different modes are provided to players. The first lets them play at 3840x2160 (4K) with a frame rate of 30 FPS, while the other allows for 60 FPS at 3200x1800. HDR is also supported.

PS4 Pro with a 1080p display:

The game renders at the "highest resolution" and then downscales the super-sampled image to 1080p. HDR support is also included.

Mafia III

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

Native 1440p resolution. Smoother frame rate (but still capped at 30 FPS).

PS4 Pro with a 1080p display:

Super sampling anti-aliasing.

NBA 2K17

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

Native 4K resolution running at 60 FPS with HDR support.

PS4 Pro with a 1080p display:

2K confirmed to GameSpot that it will still render a 4K resolution even on a 1080p display. The company said this should result in "much better anti-aliasing" with HDR support.

Nioh

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

Movie Mode: Stable 3840x2160 resolution at 30 FPS

Action Mode: Stable 1920x1080 resolution at 60 FPS

PS4 Pro with a 1080p display:

Movie Mode: Stable 1920x1080 resolution with high quality anti-aliasing at 30 FPS

Action Mode: Stable 1920x1080 resolution at 60 FPS

Native 3840x2160 (4K) resolution.

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

There are three different visual options PS4 Pro owners can choose from when playing Rise of the Tomb Raider on a Pro. This includes an option to play with a 4K option that runs at 30 FPS.

PS4 Pro with a 1080p display:

The other two options don't require a 4K display in order to take advantage. The high-frame rate mode supports 1080p with a frame rate of "up to" 60 FPS. Lastly, there's an enriched visuals mode that runs at 1080p and 30 FPS, but "improves overall image quality" with things like hardware tessellation, anisotropic filtering, additional dynamic foliage, and more.

Thumper

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

Native 4K resolution with no upscaling at 60 FPS.

PlayStation VR:

Improved rendering quality at the same 90 FPS as the regular PS4, in addition to high quality supersampling and anti-aliasing.

Titanfall 2

Producer Drew McCoy explained in an interview that the PS4 Pro version of Titanfall 2 will not run in native 4K. However, the console's extra power should help the game stick closer to its 60FPS target. Read the full interview here to learn more.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

Story resolution has increased to 2560x1440. Multiplayer resolution also increases to 1080p. Additionally, the game supports HDR.

PS4 Pro with a 1080p display:

The game renders at the "highest resolution" and then downscales the super-sampled image to 1080p. HDR support is also included.

Viking Squad

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

Native 3840x2160 (4K) resolution with MSAA 2x running at 60 FPS.

The Witness

PS4 Pro with a 4K display:

PS4 Pro Games with Unconfirmed Details

Games Confirmed* to Not Get a PS4 Pro Upgrade Patch

Destiny

A PS4 Pro patch is not in the cards right now, but could happen later, Bungie said.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

"Since we want to fully focus on Cyberpunk 2077 and Gwent, and converting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from a full HD game into a 4K one would be too much of a time and resource-consuming process, we decided not to release an edition of Wild Hunt supporting the new features of PlayStation Pro," CD Projekt Red said.

Until Dawn

Supermassive has confirmed that the horror game is not getting any visual improvements for PS4 Pro, though the PlayStation VR version, Rush of Blood, will get a patch.

* Denotes a situation where a developer has not ruled out a PS4 Pro patch for the future, but isn't committing to one right away.

current options in several games:

1440p-1880p upscaled to 4k hdr at 30fps

1080p 60fps

(just bought nioh and my opinion is that 60fps is more important than resolution)

but honestly ps4 pro is little by little becoming a console that allows you to choose between more resolution or more fps.

Personally Im very happy with ps4 pro

@atomolog: true but as an upgrade you shouldn't have to pick between framerates and resolution. Sony chose to make a profit over giving you the best of both worlds. Instead of giving us a console that would beat the pro in both fps and resolution they decided to just slap on another gpu and call it a day. They screwed you over so that they can make a full mark up on you. You paid 400 bucks for a pc that cost them less than half of that. Don't support that practice because it is the cancer of the gaming industry. That type of lying is what caused the gaming industry to crash back when I was a kid.

Is this it?

What a scam sony.

Why not be honest and tell it like it is.

4k in a outdated console is by far one of the nastyest things sony has done to butt f*** us as consumers.

Its not gonna work 100% on the ps4.

This is because the ps4 is made for full hd. Not 4k.

This they now but f*** it right.

So now sony has an army of testers for free, and all of the free labor is going in to the ps5.

What a scam.

1800p checkboard rendering on 4K TV (3200x1800)

I wish I could go back in time to 2005 and tell myself this would be a thing some day. The Pro is so awesome for exclusives now.

@Alex00x: I'm pretty sure 2160p is as true of 4k as you'll get. What's up with this trendy "true 4k" thing anyways? Resolution is resolution. It's 2 numbers making up a total sum of pixels.

@Alex00x: Seriously dude? 2160p IS 4k... 720p is HD, 1080p is UHD. Not trying to make fun of you, but how in the world did you make it seem like I said 720p is the same as 1080p? The ONLY resolution for native 4k is 2160p... everything else is upscaled with cool new technology.

@joshrmeyer: Oh yeah 2160p is true 4k. But most of these games are 1440p which I thought was what you were talking about when I skimmed through your post. I have to also mention that 4k is UHD, not 1080p. 1080p is true HD.

"I'm pretty sure 2160p is as true of 4k as you'll get. What's up with this trendy "true 4k" thing anyways? Resolution is resolution." - your comment.

To be true 4k it needs to be native, from the platform, game and monitor, upscaling is not true 4k. Even if the game's at 2160p.

Simple as that.

@cynrid: "Never said PS4 couldn't run games at 4k. I said 2160p it's not always true 4k. And that PS4 is not 4k native." PS4 Pro does native 4k on several games. And yes, 2160p is native 4k or "true 4k". And yes PS4 Pro does indeed do it. Not every scorpio game will be native 4k either.

@joshrmeyer: Bro are you dumb ? PS4 does not run itself at 4k, but it does run games at 4k. Its not the same thing, for example when you have a computer and you upscale games to 4k, your native resolution is 1080p or 1440p. The same happens with the ps4, even if it runs games native, your PS4 resolution WITHOUT gaming is not 4k. Again, I never said PS4 could not run games at 4k native. NEVER. I simply said to your comment, that 2160p is not the only requirement to true 4k, thats why I quoted your comment talking about it, and said the requirements after. To be true 4k, it needs to be native without upscaling, never said PS4 couldn't do that to games, did I ? So please could you stop saying the same thing over and over again ? Its like the only know you know is PS4 can run games at native 4k, when 95% of my comment is not even about PS4 but your comment about true 4k.

@joshrmeyer: Means exactly what I said, when you plug in the console to a TV. At least mine, tells me the resolution the console is running at the moment and when it changes. PS4 pro runs just like PS4, at 1080p. When I turn it on, it says 1920x1080p 60hz.

I believe The Division got a patch. Found out perusing 4K PS4 Pro Youtube videos. Read The Dwarves hits 60 fps on Pro.

see I need more 1080p 60fps patches (that was what I wanted from a witcher 3 patch, though 1440p would be even better @ buttery 60fps) my whole problem with the pro is they keep trying to make it out to be a 4K machine, which is wrong it's not technically a 4K system but it could be a great 1440p system, that runs at stable 60+ fps, I will have much less/no interest in a non 4K @30 fps or less. this is just a stopgap before PS4K.
