Update: During a call with investors, Take-Two explained that Evolve's delay stemmed from a desire to provide Turtle Rock with additional time to polish the game. "We are encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive response from press and fans, and believe by extending development by a few months, it will allow the team enough time to fully realize their creative vision for Evolve," president Karl Slatoff said.

In response to a question about the delay later in the call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick added, "Historically, we've always benefited from giving the creative teams more time to polish the titles; we've never regretted it." He also noted some of the other benefits of the delay, describing February as a "pretty terrific release window. It's not at all crowded, and we will benefit from the fact that there are a lot of holiday sales of consoles so the install base will be bigger."

Original Story: 2K Games has delayed Evolve, the upcoming cooperative shooter from Turtle Rock Studios, the developer responsible for Left 4 Dead. Originally scheduled for release on October 21, Evolve will now be released on February 10, 2015.

This news comes as part of 2K parent company Take-Two's announcement of its financial results for the most recent quarter. No reason was cited for the delay, but Take-Two is scheduled to host a conference call with investors this afternoon, and we may learn more then. We'll update this story with anything Take-Two may share about the nature of the delay.

2K Games had claimed Evolve would be the "defining" Xbox One and PlayStation 4 game of 2014. The game won the top prize from the E3 2014 Game Critics Awards and was of numerous major releases scheduled for this October. However, a number of games have moved out of the month, including Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, which is now coming in September.

Evolve is planned for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC; no last-gen versions have been announced to-date. A PC-only alpha test recently took place for the game. For more, check out our Next Big Game feature on Evolve.

People are still crying over these delays.... Would you rather them rush these games out full of bugs and a ton of patches or wait and try to get it right.

Financial move? Destiny, Halo, Shadows of Mordor, DA:I are coming out (to name a few and my personal favorites.) Whatever the reason I hope they add at least one more monster. I am very excited about this game, but worry it will get stale after a few tries. On the other side, if it is all pay dlc for new monsters/classes that is going to hurt my soul.

Wow...another one bites the dust. These delays just keep coming. Division, Arkham Knight, Dying Light, Evolve, Witcher 3, the list goes on. I will say this: the stars are aligning for Nintendo here. This year was looking like a serious gauntlet for them to have to run with a huge number of multiplats coming. But now many of the flagships of the multiplat fleet have been moved to 2015. And Sony and Microsoft really bet a lot on the multiplat onslaught, especially this holiday. They have so few powerful exclussives. Nintendo has an opening here that they really need to focus on capitalizing on.

Apart from few great games, what a terrible year of gaming. I began to think if GTA V for next-gen and PC will also get delayed

it sucks that yet another game has been delayed from the 2014 release schedule but it means that 2015 is going to be an amazing year, it may better 1998 and 2007 got to start saving (i keep a portion of my pay cheque for gaming the rest is for my family) i cant wait.

Piss off.

Don't announce anything unless you are 100% sure it's coming out when you'd say it would.

Preorder cancelled, will get it eventually after a price drop.

Hopefully the delay was really done in order to make the game...ya know...interesting. I played it for an hour and found it to be pretty damn ho-hum and generic. Uninstalled it.

It is defining. It's an announced game for 2014 that is delayed to 2015. THAT defines a next gen game and they accomplished that.

I applaud Take Two for this decision. Far too many developers rush games to the market only to be replied to with a boatload of complaints from players. None of you should be complaining about this, because you'd be complaining on the other side of things if released too early.

Good job, Take Two!

With at least 50 games in my backlog, I have not cared about delayed games in like 10 years. I have not paid attention to release dates of games since I generally buy them on steam sales. But if a game is super polished and very well made I dont have a problem getting it at the new price.

That being said, I still am looking forward to this game whenever it shows up.

Im curious why some people get mad at delays? You cant play the game now, and after the announcement, you still cant play the game now. Whoppie, big deal.

Game development companies need to seriously choose their dates more wisely. This is just unprofessional, misleading, annoying and easily avoided if you just choose your time much smarter.

All these games delayed remind me of the typical scene in movies where you see an airport and suddenly the flightboard goes DELAYED and everyone goes into panic. Wow that was a long sentence.

The Order delayed to 2015. "Well that just gives me more time to play The Division."

The Division delayed to 2015. "That's all right, it just gives me more time to play Batman."

Batman: Arkham Knight delayed to 2015. "F***. What's next on the list? Hardline?"

Battlefield: Hardline delayed to 2015. "...Good riddance. I was looking forward to Evolve anyway."

Evolve delayed to 2015. "You know what? I'll just read this next article about how pre-orders are on an industry-wide downward spiral. Wonder why."

Honestly, ever since the PS4 and X1 have come out, games delays have become more common. It seems like publishers and devs are trying to rush titles to get them on the market as soon as possible, but when that date approaches, they realize they need more time. This trend will probably decline in a year or so.
