Want to play Evolve's Big Alpha on PC but don't have a code? If you own XCOM: Enemy Unknown you're in luck.

Publisher 2K's community manager Stephen Reid announced via the game's Steam page that if you already own XCOM: Enemy Unknown, you can now download and participate in Evolve's Big Alpha. Just check your Steam library.

To find out what the Big Alpha includes and if your PC can run it, check out developer Turtle Rock Studios' announcement from last week.

After hitting Xbox One first on October 30, Evolve was supposed to launch on PC and PlayStation 4 yesterday, but has been delayed on the latter due to network difficulties. Last night, 2K released a statement saying that "2K, Turtle Rock Studios, and PlayStation continue to work hard to resolve the difficulties affecting the Evolve Big Alpha on PlayStation 4," but hasn't said when it expects to resolve the issue.

The Big Alpha ends on Sunday, November 2.

In Evolve, four players fight together to take down a fifth player, who takes on the role of a monster with unique (and deadly) attributes. The game was originally targeted to launch this year, but was delayed to February 10, 2015. Turtle Rock previously created the Left 4 Dead series.

I scrolled down quite a bit to find people discussing the game and not how visually attractive Mary in the video is. First of all, I'm proud of you commenters for staying on-topic. Your opinions differ (and seem to be handled..maturely..for the most part), but at least you didn't give in to that classic and annoying urge.

Therefore it is up to me.
She's hot as hell! Wow.
Credit where credit is due.

Evolve also looks pretty good and could very well be very entertaining.

Well, I'm not hearing good things about this game at the moment.

My initial thoughts were that it looked kinda cool but it looks like once you get into it, it's kinda dull.

What is going on with game development these days? - It seems to be taking a massive step backwards this generation. All the big game releases this gen have not won hearts and minds. It all looks like too much hype and not enough game.

Evolve, like so many other hotly anticipated games recently, just fall flat on release and you're always left feeling that you've only got half a game. The DLC thing has really got out of hand these days to the point where I think it's all back-firing now. All the big games are just throwing DLC at you from day 1 onwards. It's gotta stop.

I really miss the old days of games development with games like Unreal Tournament, where you got a boat load of FREE content and that usually meant you supported the developer through all of their games. Brand loyalty rewarded and a massive, thriving community behind it. I don't see any of that these days.

Oh yeah, Evolve - looks kinda boring.

@ecurl143 We're expecting too much I think. Granted it doesn't help when a website runs like 13 articles in a row on the same game discussing every little aspect of a game that has no content (how they managed that I have no idea), but I think people are expecting a massive jump in the potential and quality of games with the changing of the generation when it simply isn't there. It's what has destroyed the reputation of games like Watch Dogs which had very little wrong with it but it seemed like everyone was disappointed with it. I mean seriously, you see this even in the comments of Gamespot reviews where people actually complain that an 8/10 isn't high enough and where some say GTA5 should've got a 10/10 and not a 9/10.

When it comes to this game in particular, yes it's boring, yes it completely falls flat on what it's trying to achieve, and it seems like there's nothing actually in it. To me, one of the big problems this game has is that it totally has the wrong feel to it. You have 4 guys hunting down 1 monster... a monster you can spot a mile away because it's so massive and the only reason you can't see it a mile away is because there's so much in the terrain that blocks your line of sight (rocks rocks and more rocks). Left 4 Dead had the opposite feeling, and it made the experience all the more exciting because you could be attacked from anywhere by multiple baddies and it happened very quickly. You could go from being in control of the situation to a total loss of it in a matter of 2 or 3 seconds. It gave you a pretty good feeling of suspense. Because you're hunting down one monster that's so much larger than you here, there's none of that.

It is an alpha and not all the content is there, but in fairness I don't feel like I'm missing very much. So what if there are more hunters, more weapons and more monsters? It doesn't change anything. It doesn't change how the game is played or how the general gist of each match goes. Game modes will do that, and that's where I'm hoping the game will turn itself around. For all we know the 'Hunt' game mode is like Team Deathmatch in a game where Unreal Tournament's 'Assault' or 'Warfare/Onslaught' game modes exist. It's incredibly dry as an experience the way it is now.

I found the game really satisfying (as someone who has mostly played the monster). I would completely understand why the game might turn some people off though. It is not an FPS that requires twitch movements or precise aiming to be good at, and it certainly isn't a run and gun game that defines Halo, CoD, Battlefield, etc etc etc (your average FPS style game). It is a hide and seek, cat and mouse style game. I couldn't tell if I was supposed to be more afraid as the humans or as the monster, and if there was action every second of the match, the monster would lose every time. The excitement comes from learning to run and sneak around until you are strong enough to survive the onslaught of 4 other players at once. Upgrading feels good and the atmosphere feels nice. My only gripes would be that the game is not optimized well for the PC (yet... even at lowest settings on a decent computer, I ran into lagging/freezing when the action heated up) and the maps feel a tad bit small and confined. It is pretty easy for the humans to chase you down if you stay in one spot for more than 10 seconds, and if you look at the map replay at the end of a match, you can see that the humans are pretty much right behind you every step of the way, even when you are being careful and sneaky. Maps can start to feel really small and you end up doing the same loop about 6 times before the round ends.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> run and gun was not the word I meant to use for all of those, though it does apply to many FPS games. Rather, competitive shooting is what I was looking for. You don't get shot at by other shooters in this game, you shoot at giant lumbering monsters as they flee or charge at you. It is a wholly different experience than your regular FPS, and should be approached as such.

Just by reading the comments below it seems that this is going to be another extremely hyped up game that doesn't live up to expectations. It is the alpha so there is definitely room for improvements to be made though.

I feel like this is going to go the way of Titanfall.

A somewhat unique/revitalized concept that ends up being a repetitive gimmick. As danny said below me, I'm worried that's the whole game. That same gimmick, over and over. Fun the first five times and that's it.

Just like Titanfall. Awesome idea. Great execution. Over and over and over and over. Not necessarily a good thing.

<< LINK REMOVED >> And how are these games any different from so many other multiplayer games, especially FPS? Even some that're hailed as the best of their genre like UT, Quake, Halo, CoD, Battlefield etc. still boil down to awesome idea, great execution and doing it over and over and over and over. I don't really get what you're even expecting from a game like this if you think older games somehow innovated or changed things up drastically some 5-15+ hours later.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> The keyword in my statement was "gimmick." Many other addicting FPSes have many, many different parts that all come together to make a cohesive whole. You repeat this over and over, but it doesn't feel repetitive because it can happen so many different ways with so many different parts.

Instead of having that depth, Evolve gives you a gimmick that is new and shiny at first glance and has you repeat it over and over. That's the difference.

This is an opinion statement, not an objective fact. I have played the alpha and the core gameplay gives me this vibe, that is all.

Played this on X1 and the original alpha on PC. They're calling it an "alpha" but it seems more like a beta to me as there is way too much there and in place to qualify it as an alpha.

To be honest, it seems very underwhelming. Playing as the monster feels no different than playing as a human which means there is no weight to your movement, but there is to your attacks, so it feels very awkward to control.

Unless you get a crew of 4 hunters who know what they are doing the monster will tear you to shreds if he/she is at all experienced as the monster.

On the other hand, if all 4 hunters are skilled then you stand no chance as the monster.

Needless to say they have a ton of balancing to do and matchmaking will make or break the game. Based on previous experiences with matchmaking I'm leaning more toward breaking at this point.

@ecurl143 @Dragon_Nexus @cyloninside Yea games made by people who actually know how to make games typically end up that way. Amazing, isn't it? Doesn't change the fact that it's alpha. Beta will probably be in december to give them an entire month to iron out the remaining issues before release.

It's fun. The concept is cool and the classes I've played are fun. The problem is, imo at least, it took less than 3 matches before I started seeing the typical "go kill yourself noob" fights going on between pugs I've come to expect from Dota2/CoD. Add in that the lifeblood of this game will probably be the casuals who won't be forming pre-mades, and you've got a recipe for disaster. My last match we lost to the alien simply because my team was spread out all over the place (follow daisy!) so the monster could pick us off 1 by 1. There needs to be a way to help promote coordination and teamwork instead of the current FFA system. I feel like, as a pug, I need a lot more info conveyed to me than what is given.

That and the $50 for a competitive MP game that will thrive or fail on the population is a high price. Space Marine is a good game, the MP was fun, but it's dead now, I don't see why Evolve would be different...at least with Space Marine I had a SP game though.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I haven't encountered toxic behavior yet, thank god. Every match(outside of one) the team has stuck together or in two man groups when locating/intercepting the monster, and I've found the info they give through the game has been sufficient enough. It shows where team mates are, their health etc. and waypoint marker is really important thing to use to keep the team together and focused on the monster if you find it or its tracks. And at least on PC there's chat if you don't have mics. And I'd say the monster, and other small critters, kicking 1-2 guys ass very easily is enough to promote teamwork, if not then the players are just bad.

This game blows... the concept sounds ok but did anyone involved in the development of this game actually try to play it? You walk around aimlessly for 4-5 minutes and then you shoot dozens of clips into a bullet sponge. There is literally ONLY 1 thing to shoot at throughout most games as the 200% jump and jetpack means that you can easily ignore every other creature on the map. The outlook for this generation of consoles is VERY bleak if this was the most "innovative" game to come out next year.

I've played a few matches as trapper. Maybe I wasn't reading the screen, but I'd like some confirmation on when I have the Monster trapped.

Once I had it trapped, but lifted the trap because I couldn't tell if I had it. It was on the other side of spire and I couldn't see it.

Yes, something in addition to just chasing the monster would be nice. It seems more like a game mode than the main game objective.

I just tried this and the thing that strikes me about it is it is really boring. Like most of the matches I've tried end up with your team wandering around aimlessly for about 10 minutes while the monster levels up so you can all converge on the final location to defend. In which case why not just send us there in the first place and save us wasting our time walking around bored?

It also takes too long to get into games. Feels like you are waiting or wandering around more than you actually fight.

The learning curve is really quite high as well. Because you don't choose which class you are going to be each match it will take a long time of messing around with each play style before you feel comfortable falling into any match with any class. Not sure I care enough to want to overcome that particular mountain.

<< LINK REMOVED >> lol it's an alpha dude calm yourself, connectivity issues will be resolved. Also it's boring for someone maybe if all they play is CoD or one of those games. It's a game about learning your surroundings, using actual tactics and timing things right, not just pray and spray. If you found it hard it;s because your whole team doesn't know how to work as a team. It's a CO-OP game, so if there's even one weak link, the team suffers. It may seem like a learning curve, but it's actually very easy to get used to each class, some people just don't have the patience to do so. Also I'm almost positive they will have a singleplayer mode on release, so you could get MORE than enough practice on every character that way. People who seem to hate this game (not calling you out) seem to only dislike it because it's not their preferred super crazy, action packed, fast paced, chaotic, all over the place, explosive Call of Battleauto: The Halo Gears Unreal edition game, not because it isn't mechanically well built.

@hoyholyhoy I didn't say there were connectivity issues I said it takes too long to get into games. As in you are sat at the menu waiting for other people to sort their characters out and wait for a little timer at the top for no real reason.

There is no tactics you all get thrown out into the map and then you just lurch around at random looking for the monster. There is no spray anything because there is nothing to spray at. It takes about ten minutes of just wandering around before you even find something to shoot at.

I don't mind that it isn't COD or Halo what I do mind is that it is boring.

The game IS mechanically well built but the point is it isn't filled with any soul at the same time.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I don't know if this game will cater to the same types of people who like to play COD for instance. Not saying COD gamers only play one type of game. This type of game you would have to be more patient and methodical. In COD you can solo it whenever you want against the enemy but your success isn't dependent upon teamwork all of the time. For people looking for an all guns blazing type of game I think they may be looking at the wrong thing.
