Ex-THQ exec founds Mamba Games

New multiplatform publisher secures rights to Flight Simulator X expansions, with first add-on for in-question franchise due March 27.

It's hard to say what Microsoft's future plans will be for its Flight Simulator franchise, given that the publisher has officially decided to close the studio behind the title. However, even if the franchise's skies remain cloudy, Flight Simulator X will see at least one more expansion leave the tarmac.

Today, Mamba Games announced its arrival on the industry-publishing scene, and one of its first projects will be the Grumman F6F Hellcat expansion for Flight Simulator X. The title is expected to hit retail shelves worldwide on March 27. Mamba Games also said today that it has secured the rights to release five other add-ons for Flight Simulator X during the next 24 months.

Mamba officially set up shop in November 2008, and is headed up by former THQ executive Robert Neilson. The publishing house plans to release games on a number of different platforms, including the PC, Wii, DS, and PlayStation 3. Thus far, Mamba's portfolio includes the aforementioned Flight Sim games, as well as The Lost Crown: Ghost Hunting Adventure and Pyroblazer, due out by March for the PC. The publisher is also at work on Matchman, which is slated for release on the DS in Q2, with Wii, PS3, and PSN editions expected to arrive later this year.

Mamba is currently evaluating further partnerships and expects to announce an expanded lineup of upcoming projects in the coming weeks.

MS Flight Simulator has been around since the late 70's, so it absolutely has a following, and I for one am really sad to think that there may be no more. I sure hope a company like Mamba and the expansions it's planning to make will help rejuvinate people's interest and make MS think twice before they decide that FS is at its end.

Dude you are totaly wrong. The only reason you are saying that is because you probably don't even have a 360! I could care less if they close! I tried MFSX and yea it was neat, but who really wants to sit at a comp for 300 hours trying to learn how to fly??

It is really sad MS decided to close its Flight Sim Studio. I'd prefer them to close Xbox Live, since that "thing" does not work here, YET.
