Faery: Legends of Avalon flutters onto XBLA

Microsoft Store Update: Role-playing game from Focus Home Interactive hits download space next to The UnderGarden and Guwange.

No Caption Provided Last month, Microsoft served up a bountiful Game Feast, but since that digital cornucopia ended, the Xbox Live Arcade hasn't released much in the way of prominence. That theme continues this week.

Leading the charge this week is Faery: Legends of Avalon (1,200 MS points, or $15). From publisher Focus Home Interactive and developer Spiders, the fantasy role-playing game is now available to download on XBLA. The title lets gamers choose to play as either an elf or a fairy and tasks them with saving the world from "inevitable disappearance." Players will encounter numerous and varied foes along their journey and will also team up with characters whose skills are unique and ultimately helpful in the effort to save the planet.

Also released this week was The UnderGarden (800 MS points, or $10). From Vitamin G Studios, the physics-based puzzle title was published by Atari and sees players controlling a petite creature inside caverns. The title sports 14 unique levels upon which players will face a number of puzzle-solving tasks.

The last XBLA title to arrive this week was Guwange (800 MS points, or $10). An action game set during the Muromachi age in Japan, the title sports multiple game modes like Score Attack and co-op, where players can fight together over Xbox Live. The title is based on the arcade game of the same name that was released in 1999.

@ SolidTy I don't know how I missed it, but in my infinite stupidity I guess I did. Thank You, I am going to pick it up this afternoon. And even after getting this collection and owning the second shining force for genesis, I would still pay for it on XBLA/PSN. Imagine if you can, online co-op. That would change the game completely. But this collection alone is worth it for the Phantasy Star series. Shining Force is also makes this worthy of purchase. Great collection. @Solamon Do you have any idea long this game is supposed to be? I do like JRPG style games, but I hate downloading games (prefer tangible copies versus digital, its the collector in me). And the idea of an XBLA RPG just seems too good to be true. It sounds like something to distract me from Left for Dead 2 for a bit though

@shaun_ofda_dead: I'm currently enjoying Faery. I don't know if I would recommend it to just anyone though. It has some pretty great graphics (both technical and artistic), but the individual worlds are pretty small. However, If you like JRPG style fighting and quests that mostly involve getting to know NPCs (aka navigating conversation menus), then you will probably enjoy this game. I find it to be a great game to just relax to when I don't want to play something that's too action oriented. But that's just me. And anyone who said the Game Feast sucked obviously didn't play Super Meat Boy, which is currently in my personal running for Game of the Year. Comic Jumper was pretty funny too and I also enjoyed Hydrophobia. It had some great water physics!

@SolidTy I hear ya, I download demos and forget I have them sometimes. And I could have swore that when I rented Sonic UGC last year that the shining games were not on it. Am I wrong about that? I can't believe i would have missed that. That would be criminal on my part. It is an afordible game, maybe I will pick it up. At least I will get Phatasy Star 4 out of it. Thanks for the heads up. And really, I got a thumbs down from someone for my comment? Wow.

@SolidTy Download the trial if you are on the fence about something. So does anybody think Fairy is a good game? I am unsure after the demo if its worth $15. And Guwange is good but I am somewhat disappointed. Plus I don't think its going to be popular so it kind of throws away the online co-op. Can we please get Shining Force on XBLA? Will anyone else join me in a petition for sega to get of their a$$ and get on this? I would pay $15 no problem for that game.

@SolidTy this is NOT the game feast dude. Game feast was last month. It has Comic Jumper, SuperMeat Boy, and a few others. "Last month, Microsoft served up a bountiful Game Feast, but since that digital cornucopia ended,

Super Meat Boy was the only game worth buying released during the Game Feast.

The so called game feast was dull. Faery: Legends of Avalon actually looks more interesting than most of the Feast games and after playing the trial I'm definitely going to buy it.

@deathwish026 two of the games are 800 pts. The RPG if it's a decent length, could definitely be worth it.

@deathwish026 800 MS points is much more appetizing. But if you give the Faery demo a try, you'll see its definetely worth that extra 400 points. I'm liking that we've been getting some quality downloadable games recently though (Lara Croft, Pinball FX 2, Faery). Just need my 800 bonus points from the October promotion so I can afford to get more of 'em!
