Fallout 4 Xbox One Mods Launch Is a Huge Hit, New Features Coming

Fallout 4's Xbox One version welcomed mods this week, and the launch has been a big hit, it seems. Bethesda reports on Twitter that console numbers are pacing well ahead of PC figures for when mods came to computers earlier this year with the Creation Kit.

"Xbox traffic was 50x the initial Fallout 4 PC mod launch," the developer said, though it's not exactly clear how "traffic" is defined. Whatever the case, Bethesda is pleased with the results. "It's a new world & just the beginning," the developer said.

"We tried for 15 years & mods are finally on a console," the developer added. "Check them out. Thanks for your patience and support!"

As explained during last week's livestream event, when you have Fallout 4 mods installed you cannot earn any achievements. Additionally, in order to play Fallout 4 mods that make use of the game's DLC (like the recently released Far Harbor expansion), you will need to own that DLC. On top of that, there is a 2GB cap on installed mods.

When you use mods, the game creates a new save. If something goes wrong with the mod and you lose progress you can revert back to your regular, non-mod save game.

In other news about Fallout 4 console mods, Bethesda has confirmed that they are still on track to come to PlayStation 4 in June. In one of today's tweets, Bethesda also teased that "new features" for Fallout 4 mods are also in the works, though no further details were shared.

Fallout 4's console mod program was announced at E3 2015. Bethesda later explained why it partnered with Microsoft to launch them first on Xbox One.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red has also talked about possibly bringing PC mods to console, but this hasn't happened yet and it's unclear if it ever will.
