Fallout 76, Which Has Reached 17 Million People, Is Getting Lots More Content In 2024

Get ready for more Fallout 76 in 2024.

Bethesda's Fallout 76 may not have debuted to a fantastic critical reception back in 2018, but the developer has steadily supported and expanded upon the game over the years. To date, it's reached more than 17 million people, so it's not a big surprise to learn that Bethesda is planning even more updates to the online RPG for 2024.

In a blog post, developer Jon Rush said, "We're not done yet." In Spring 2024, Bethesda will launch another update, Atlantic City -- America's Playground, which features a new mission. Players will take on the Jersey Devil in a main mission and dig into other story-driven quests and reach new areas of the world to explore and earn rewards.

Now Playing: Fallout 76 - Season 15: The Big Score

Later in 2024, Bethesda will add new locations to the map in the south, into the Shenandoah woodlands. "This uncharted, once-tranquil expanse in the heart of Virginia will bring a new questline, factions, and rewards," Bethesda said.

Additionally, 2024 will see Bethesda do more with Fallout 76's seasonal events. These will be run more frequently than before and they will each have new rewards to collect.

"Among all this exciting new content, we're planning to release several additional features and improvements that benefit our avid builders and adventurers alike," Bethesda said. "Whether you've roamed Appalachia's wilds since day one or are still adjusting to the natural light outside the fluorescent halls of Vault 76, next year marks an exciting time to adventure into Fallout 76 and make friends in Wasteland."

Beyond the new updates for Fallout 76, 2024 marks the debut of the Fallout TV series on Prime Video, which arrives in April. The show is canonical to the Fallout universe.

Looking even further out, Bethesda's Todd Howard has confirmed Fallout 5, but it won't be released until after The Elder Scrolls VI.

Any word on if or when they are going to fix all of the main and original game-breaking quest bugs that are already there? No? So more of the same then just in new, exotic locations? Cool.

Hmmm... I have been a long time player, let me see if I can help.

Vast majority of game breaking bugs are fixed and have been within 6 months after its launch. BUT... yes this game should have never seen daylight at launch.

So more of the same then just in new.... No, not really. Many of the quests and main quests have been revamped over the years, or slightly tweaked to be faster, more exciting, better story telling ... ie like FF14. There is also new set pieces or action scenarios, that make the game more interesting with storytelling and player interaction. Much less, hoping the community sandbox is enough to entertain, or those early days where everything is monetized at all corners and steps. Some content has been great and some just so so, nothing terrible.

BUT.....

There is problems, that gamers should expect or at least understand.

First off, ..... Fallout 76 uses the Creation Engine, a 3D video game engine created by Bethesda Game Studios. The Creation Engine is based on the Gamebryo engine, which was developed by Bethesda and dates back to 2003...

This engine and its apis can cause problems with non mainstream gaming PC builds. (I do not have enough exposure with console port for an opinion) Updates are slow, and if you are trying to play this game on cutting edge hardware, or very old/ unusual hardware, you may have issues now and again. It is a old game and looks a bit dated as well. Running a clean build is important. I do not like Bethesda's engine, but I am glad they built their own engine and kept it running, as we need strong competition.

This game is not for everyone, it is not exactly Fallout and not a traditional MMORPG either. Great older community, and interesting gameplay, but it can get boring after a time. Nothing like wow crack that you log in every day. It is worth its entry. Sub vs free.... at first free (beyond game cost) is fine and for a long time, but inventory management hell after a while if not subd.

----

Is it worth playing... yes and no. If you have never played, grab it, burn through the storyline, it is fun. But there is just way to many live service, sandbox, mmo games out there worth playing over this game. Price is low, and worth a romp out of the vault if your new to the game. If you have already played it... well that is up to you.

@Lytnin: Are there still a bunch of game breaking bugs in Fallout 76? I haven't played since launch, but I can't imagine the game would still be popular enough to get a bunch of DLC now, after three and a half years, if it still had game breaking bugs from launch.

Plus, I don't think they've yet said what (if anything) is being fixed with the updates around this new content.

@mogan: I play 76 daily and the answer is no, there aren't really any "game breaking" issues. I do know people that have their game freeze at the sign in screen if they click Log In too fast and every once in a while I'll randomly crash or have a quest get stuck, requiring me to change servers to get it to work... but that's about as bad as it gets and I wouldn't consider those "game breaking".

That's not to say there aren't some issues that have been around for a while... but the vast majority are minor annoyances that you learn to live with.

I stopped playing this after about 3 weeks into Vanilla because I was so bored. Decided to pick it back up a few weeks ago, and I was very happy to see how much they had added to it.

It has much more to do now, actually has NPC's, quests are better, new weapons and vendors are cool, and they keep adding DLC for free.

They may have hit 17 million players, but that def isn't concurrent. HOWEVER, I have yet to log into the game and be in a server that was not active. 24/7, whenever I log in, I get a server that is full, and everyone is participating in things like public events and group content.

So I would say it is doing alright still. Worth continuing the support from Bethesda.

@sebb: Apparently they have dedicated around 120 staff to Starfield to continue with the content.

@alphazonex: You are reaching too. The game reached me. I don't play it. I'm not the least bit confused as to what that means. Why are you?

@alphazonex: If Bethesda is making more content for it, Fallout 76 must be doing alright.

@greatquantum: So you're arguing that 76 has 17 million active players right now?

@alphazonex: Literally no one, including the headline that you're complaining about, is saying that. Your lack of reading comprehension skills does not make a headline misleading.

@alphazonex: If it said Comcast has reached 17 million viewers, does that mean they are all watching tv right now?

@alphazonex: show us a list of games that have ever had that many players. If you can't think of any, then maaaaybe it is you that is a bit thick. The title is not clickbait.

@alphazonex: Saying that the game has "reached" 17 Million people =/= there are 17 Million active players right now. You seem to be the only one who couldn't make that fairly obvious distinction. 🤷
