After these 45 minutes the game becomes linear, right?

I'm looking forward to this game, I have it pre-ordered, however there are some pet peeves I have that I hope are misplaced.

The camera: It looks all over the place, especially during combat, it's so loose and the way the characters move about makes me think its going to be chaos trying to see/control what you're doing. It's not so bad during combat in the open, but in a corridor or confined space it looks plain bad. I hope it plays better than it looks.

The voices: I can't make my mind up about what it is that's so off. I'm not talking about the VO's themselves, which I'll admit I think are awful. Gladiolus sounds like a character from Dragonball Z and Ignis sounds so painfully English he's like a caricature (and I'm English btw.) Fortunately I'll be using the JP voices which so far sound more naturally delivered to me. However there's something off about the voices in the game space itself. I don't mean cutscenes, but when they're talking while running around and exploring there's no sense of distance to their voices, it sounds like they're right in your ear. There's no location or effects applied to them to make them sound like they're coming from a character in the game world, they're just spoken directly into your ear, like straight from the recording booth. Maybe its just me I don't know, I don't normally even think about this stuff but for some reason whenever I've seen gameplay videos the dialogue just sounds so weird and harsh.

The on screen menu pop-ups: It seems the game wants to give you a lot of report cards of your fights and other things, that's fine, but I don't like the way it stops the game and makes you address it. Now I'm hoping you can prevent this in the menu, I've heard you can customise the whole layout of the what's on screen, I hope this includes those pop-ups because they look rather annoying.

There are other things like harsh sound effects (footsteps, body movement etc) the way the characters move about so erratically etc.

I know I sound really super negative and I believe many of these points will either be addressable in the menu or won't seem like an issue when actually playing the game. I'm looking forward to it, they've put a lot of effort into it and I just know it'll be way better than FFXIII.

@tidus_ff: The main issue with the English voice recordings is that the actors record their scripts separately from each other. As opposed to Japanese VA's who are (usually) all in the same booth and play off of each other, giving a more natural feel to their interactions.

I too feel that the English VA is jarring, due to the fact that you stated. It also sounds as though they've been overly processed(?) through some sound equalizer, manipulating the natural bass/treble that voices have.

- it still looks like a last-gen PS3 game, to put it nicely
- rampant hair aliasing issues
- the voice acting is so generic and stereotypical, so is the scripting
- undetailed character models, notably the faces, including the 4 leads
- the UI still needs work
- programming errors still appearing: when the giant bird arrives, the characters aren't looking at it as they comment
- Cindy doesn't appear to look straight at Noct when she's talking

- The dog Umbra sequence seemed pretty uneventful, although it seems to be a rather important plot segway to Luna?..

I'm suprised that although they've cited The Last of Us as a point of reference, the characters, scripting and dialog style doesn't compare to begin with. I was watching some of TLOU redux videos on youtube and was reminded how powerful and well directed the cinematic + dialog moments were, on top of having fantastic character models and general atmosphere. And this is PS3. And not a socalled open-world game yet managed to be highly successful anyway? Didn't SE take note of this?

I'm saddened to see the franchise going downhill despite increase in budgets, technology, and game-making experience.

The open world looks pretty bare. If you have a space that big, you gotta have multiple types of activities along with random events.

Looks pretty bad to me. The voice acting sounds like it's straight out of Borderlands, the fanservice is real and the UI looks like the typical Korean MMO / Asian RPG style of unpolished plain and boring. All that we wait to see now is the gameplay and story reviews.

I think all the music, especially at the beginning, sounds very Crisis Core-esque.

And man, there's a lot of very loud cloth/shoe sounds when he's moving, huh?

That battle music is brilliant, it really sounds like "Final Fantasy" to me. Yoko Shimomura has done an outstanding job.
