Final Fantasy 7 Remake Listing Spotted On Epic Games Store Database

Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake may finally be headed to a non-PlayStation platform soon.

Final Fantasy VII Remake and a remaster of Alan Wake could be coming to the Epic Games Store, as site tracker EpicData tracker spotted listings for the games on the Epic Games Store database.

For Final Fantasy VII Remake, it was found on the database listed under the codename "Pineapple" in the cloud saves sub-folder. Originally a PlayStation-only game, Final Fantasy VII Remake's 12-month exclusivity period ended in April this year, although publisher Square Enix made no mention of what was next for the game.

Now Playing: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intermission Video Review

What was mentioned was that the new Intergrade content from the PlayStation 5 upgrade for Final Fantasy VII would remain a timed exclusive, but it's worth noting that Square Enix's relationship with Epic Games saw the Kingdom Hearts series made available on PC for the first time as an Epic Games Store exclusive back in March.

Alan Wake's data was discovered in an item codenamed "Heron", with a cloud save folder path reading "{UserDir}/Remedy/AlanWakeRemastered/."

The folder itself is owned by Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment, who signed publishing agreements with Epic Games back in March 2020 for a AAA multi-platform game and a "smaller-scale" game.

Alan Wake has remained largely untouched since it first released on Xbox in 2010, but the game's protagonist did make the leap to more modern systems in Control's AWE DLC in 2020, which hinted at the embattled author's battle being far from over.

What most people do not understand is that remake is a sequel to FF7, one that will require Cloud and Zack to step down and finally allowing Shinra Middle Manager to step up and save the day.

If it is exclusive it'll just be for another year at most. The game is really good and I was looking forward to playing it on the PC but I can wait for it to release on Steam.

I'll stick to my PlayStation Classic over supporting the spoiled brat of PC gaming. Square shouldn't have made it exclusive to Epic, but made a deal with Epic to have those who buy the game on EGS get Final Fantasy characters as Cloud and Sephiroth in Fortnite.

@Jinzo_111887:

Hope it comes to every digital platform out there, and not just Epics.

@jenovaschilld: Makes no difference to me on most of them. GOG would be the exception since it means no DRM, though.

@Jinzo_111887: Well at least most of squareenix to Epic stores have been timed exclusivity to the digital platform and after a year have come to steam and many others. For instance KHs, and others.

Epic when it first came out was criminal malpractice in bad digital platform execution. Now it is about like any other out there, with many of its problems including privacy, ultimately, in the hands of its consumers that are not willing to check a few boxes. I have no problem using Epic, I have no favorites, but I do so while reading the fine print like everyone should do with all of these platforms.

Love GOG.

Wow, Squeenix really wants to piss off its playerbase doesn't it? They did this with Kingdom Hearts on PC and now FF7R? OK, fine. I just won't buy into FF7R at all then. I'm on Steam for a very good reason: proper controller support. None of this having to worry about a game only supporting XInput bullshit. And I'm still not a fan of Epic's stranglehold on exclusives. It's fracturing the PC market pretty badly.

@squishytia: FF7R and Kingdom Hearts 3 are built using the Unreal Engine, which was created by Epic. So I dont understand why people are upset as it makes business sense.

@malachi: Dragon Quest XI and Trials of Mana are also made with Epic’s Unreal Engine, yet they don’t even appear in Epic Store. They’re Steam-only.

@malachi: Not really, Unreal Engine has been one of the major engines for years without any connection. Does an engine mean that Ubisoft and Epic should have a stranglehold on shops, online services and everything else as well?

Besides I really doubt Square has signed any sort of "We made our game using Unreal Engine so we agree to also publish our game on Epic storefront" contract. More likely it's the same old "We didn't expect our game to sell GTA numbers on PC so we took a deal that guaranteed us some money"

Though I wouldn't be surprised if Epic was thinking about the idea. "Use Unreal = Give us exclusivity"

@squishytia: Don't worry, the revamped Microsoft Store in "Windows 11" will push and fragment it even more.

At least Epic games are easier to pirate, I guess? inb4 Denuvo.

@DAOWAce: Pffft. Denuvo is cracked days, if not mere hours after a game goes live in most cases. And depending on the implementation it can be hit or miss as to whether or not it impacts performance.
