Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 Will Have "Different Atmosphere," Says Director

Cloud will be wandering the wilderness in Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2, a stark change from the dingy industrial feel of the first.

Final Fantasy VII Remake director Tetsuya Nomura shared more details regarding its sequel, Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2, as part of a recent presentation for the upcoming Intergrade expansion and the First Soldier mobile game.

In a brief statement, Nomura said that Part 2 starts immediately after Intergrade, though it wasn't clear if he was talking about FF7 Remake in general or if Intergrade adds more story content after the events of the original. As you may expect from how FF7 ended, he also noted that Part 2 will feature a "different atmosphere" with Cloud roaming through the wilderness. That marks a significant change from the first game, which took place almost entirely in the mega-city of Midgar.

Now Playing: Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade – PS5 Extended and Enhanced Features Video

Nomura said that development of Part 2 is going smoothly, but he didn't share any details on release timing. The first game took five years in full production, though it shifted development midway through which may have added development time. It was ultimately released in April 2020, and was named one of GameSpot's Best Games of 2020.

Intergrade is a free PS5 upgrade that upgrades the visuals and adds a new episode starring the Wutai materia-hunter Yuffie. The presentation shared loads of new details on Intergrade including a six-month exclusivity window on PS5. It also revealed that the First Soldier mobile remake will begin its beta soon, and registration is now open. Another game called Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is also in development and will chronicle the entire FF7 saga, including spin-off games and the film.

@Chutebox: I'd tend to agree with you... but I'd like to get a chance to play it before we've all died of old age.

@aaronlav: Yes, this is my biggest and only worry so far. My wife said, lets get a steel roof and I said a 40yr shingle will do us just fine. She said metal roofs last longer, I said who cares, I will be 86 and will not give a shit. IF ! I am even still alive.

She said, "well I will probably be alive....." I interrupted her with a rolling eye... and told her the only big thing of concern is getting a PS5 to play the last FF7 remakes and I will be just fine.

That is my 5 yr plan.

@Chutebox: The original FF7 in 97' was a linear RPG throughout, gated behind gates, necessary vehicles, and special conditions. You may be referring to the open world map, which like may of the rpgs of the day, only allowed you to explore the area leading to the next part of the story.

Which is fine, linear is still an amazing way to tell a story as it narrows focus and controls pacing, like the 10/10 Dragon Quest 11 and Persona 5. I love open world so much to, but any kind of game must have the story and FF7 has that indeed.

Why even feel the need to announce this, it was obviously not going to have the industrial feel of the first game seeing as they leave Midgar at the end.

I am hoping this next chapter of FF7 R (will probably called The First Soldier) is centered on Sephiroth during his time as the war hero, and spends a very large portion there. Fleshing that out with not only the content in the FF7 OG game but also CC and other written lore by Nomura. With some expansion on Zacks, Clouds, and especially Sephiroth would be so great. From Kalm to Nibelhelm. I can hardly wait.

I greatly enjoyed my two playthroughs of FF7R, this youtube scene here is very close to my own reaction throughout the entire game. FF7R reaction, so happy!

A long as they don't make the the world map too big as to make it tedious. I don't want to spend 2 hours getting to Kalm.

As for the wacky changes to the story, keep it up. I already know the original story, so this is keeping the game fresh and suprising.

@lion2447: yea honestly im not sure how this format will work.

original was amazing mix when the first disc was so intense and detailed walk in dense city full of characters and interesting views. after being rooted into the game like that it was impressive i have huuge green and blue world with lot of small towns here and there with tiny bits of story and new gear in each.

but if i now had to play only disc 1 or disc 2, i would prefer disc 1 10/10. it actually feels like a game instead of a mobile game the simple overworld with short visits to a bunch of towns is.

im sure they will make each city bigger with more things happening, but still theres a risk of it being disjointed. plus even in ffxv they didnt do so good job with the wilderness between towns

@PrpleTrtleBuBum: I think 12 had a good balance of towns to explore, while also having an overworld.

FFXV really showed how much time had been wasted in the production of the game. Besides the disjointed story, the world while large, was also very barren. There was almost no towns to explore and the few you could explore had so many invisible walls (same here for the world map.)

I don't understand how Galdin Quay is considered a "town." It was just a restaurant on a pier with two bedrooms attached. The main spots you explored around the map were just gas stations, in which many used the same diner models.

FFXV was a case of a world map with size over quality. With FF7, I would be happy with a smaller world map that was quality over size.

I was originally concerned with FF7 being overhyped and ending up like FFXV, but, for me, it actually lived up to expectations. I did quite enjoy part 1. I just really hope it doesn't take 5 years between each part.

@PrpleTrtleBuBum: I think it was Tim Rogers that showed while the midgar area was only 1/5 or 1/6 of the entire game time and content wise, its contained close to 1/2 of all dialect or translation materials. This was to help set the game up, orientate the player and gives a ton of backstory as quickly as possible.

I am amazed at the quality and love they spent on the 'remake' of FF7 97', giving its diehard fans like me (who sweated bullets, they would mess it up) a perfect love letter to the OG while also fleshing the first part of the game out. They fixed the poor translations of the original by expanding the story/ back story of FF7.

Luckily there is still so much to do, so much to play yet, and again the story itself is a 'remake', cannot wait.

@jenovaschilld: love letter? OG? Did you ask Hironobu Sakaguchi if he's content with the CRAP they've done to his work?

@soul-ao1: I have not, why would I or anyone else ask him. FF are self contained games in of themselves. He left gaming 20 yrs ago, and the last thing he worked on was ff9, which was just the loveliest of games but commercially underwhelming... well for a FF game at least. His amazing time was up. Sakaguchi, never worked on FF6, FF7, 8, or the remake. So why would anyone ask him about anything.

It is not like the press are asking the director of Madden 98' what he thinks about Madden NFL 21'.

The last game FF game he directed was 5, so let us ask him what he thinks of the dance number in FF7 Remake.

@el_swanno: I am positive that yoshinori Kitase was director of FFX..

Yeah look down the right hand side

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_X

I do not see anything Sakaguchi was part of in ten, He may have still been on the board or one of the many producers. But hand on was 9, and then he pretty much retired.

@PETERAKO:Lol. The word is correctly used here though:

"2. the pervading tone or mood of a place, situation, or creative work." As long as they capture the overall feel of the first part I'm all on board.

FF7 remake was my own personal GOTY last year and for good reason. Not only did it hit all those nostalgia buttons but it added just enough new elements to keep die hard veterans of the series guessing (despite some controversies.).

What I think really made it stand out to me was that it reminded me of a time when the overall story of a game stood out above everything else.

It seems that many of the games and movies out there today (while having better graphics, better acting, voice talent, etc...) seem to be missing in many ways the most important part; story.

I know it's not exactly fair due to FF7 remake being, well, a remake and thus using a pre-existing story but boy did playing it feel good.

Looking forward to part 2.

@videogameninja: I am a diehard purist, intense ff7 OG fanatic, fanfiction writer, who sweated bullets they would just trash FF7 97'. And I was so happy with FF7 R, a perfect love letter to the OG while also being a sequel. It is amazing. I spent hours just looking at every poster, sign, screen, music, and npc in the game- just amazed at the nostalgia just poured over it all like maple syrup. So many little winks and nods, I thought only I would catch until I saw discussions boards that found so many more.

I just watched the last trailer to Intergrade (pass into another form by a series of intervening forms) and it would seem this DLC is gonna be a good chunk of hours onto itself. And also see that the OG 97' is actually getting a remake, with proper translations for IOS/Andr.

This is wild.

Hopefully they can make this next part interesting. I don't think it's a controversial opinion to say that everything post-Midgar and pre-Temple of the Ancients in the original FF7 is unquestionably the worst part of the game. How will they evolve the core plot from "chase Sephiroth" into something that can sustain an entire game?

@Mamba219: They do continue story and backstory building from post midgar to pre-temple, by fleshing out its main characters. From Barret, golden sauncer, cosmos canyon, and more and more as FF7 97' has an amazing act II that leads into act III so well. But it also has so much mundane areas and freq enemy encounters that slow it all down. Since FF7R, did not have timed enemy encounters, and if they keep it, will allow for a more brisk pacing through the story.

@Mamba219: They'll probably make it interesting by adding new characters and situations/scenes that were not in the original, to add more story and context to those sections.
