Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection Could Come To Other Platforms If Enough People Request It

In a Q&A about the upcoming Remasters of Final Fantasy I-VI, Square Enix said the collection could come to other platforms in the future if enough people ask for it.

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster games could come to other platforms in the future, according to a Q&A posted by Square Enix. In the Q&A, translated by Siliconera, one of the questions was why Steam and mobile phones were chosen for the Pixel Remaster of Final Fantasy I-VI.

The answer was that Steam and mobile were chosen in order to offer the games to a high number of players, since most people have smartphones. Square Enix followed up to say that if there are enough requests the games could be ported to other platforms. The Q&A also clarified that the reason the games are sold both individually and in a bundle on Steam, but only individually on smartphones, is because of the difference in the storefronts.

The Q&A also clarified that while these versions of the games will have some new features and quality-of-life improvements, not all features from past releases will be included. The game will feature both a gallery and a sound player, with all background music available to be listened to as soon as you start the game.

Nibel on Twitter pulled out more details from the Q&A about some of the features included in the Pixel Remaster games. The game includes a new monster book, which tracks monsters you encounter and provides information about where they can be found on the map. The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster titles will also have keyboard and controller support on Steam.

Final Fantasy I, II, and III will be available on July 28, while Final Fantasy IV, V, VI, will release later in 2021. The collection has been criticized not only for skipping out on all the major consoles but also for having some really ugly-looking font.

They will have to really clean these NES/SNES FF games up alot for me to give a sh..4K cleans up the blur crap we all noticed when we see those games now.

FONTS are probably the biggest thing in a remstaer of a book length FF game from back then.

I really liked 7th Saga from Snes iirc.

*Number one complaint online is them not coming to Switch/PS4/PS5*

SE: "We will bring the games to other consoles if there is enough demand"

WHAT IS "ENOUGH DEMAND"? IS SE DEAF??

Not for those prices and definitely not until they fix the UI text.

Enough dead-horse thrashings. Complete high-quality 4k remake (or new installment) of Tactics or GTFO.

I'm surprised that Square Enix isn't up to their old tricks in which they state they'll consider porting popular games if enough folks buy some boring spin-off game or crummy unrelated new IP. Still, this is roughly as meaningful considering they're basically saying; "We might port these classic games with obvious appeal to a new console if you beg us first. Please do it, we have extremely low self-esteem these days and need to feel wanted..."

When I read statements like this I have to wonder: how exactly are you supposed to "request" something from a developer? By posting on their official forum? Is there even one for this 200th rerelease of the oldschool FF games?

Most companies nowadays make it impossible to reach out to them. At best you can contact their support if you have any problems. But the people there sure don't care about your feedback. So how do you request something from them?

@Atzenkiller: When a twitter celebrity posts something, sometimes the studios react and comment on them.

So yeah become an influencer that studios believe talks for each one of his 0,5 million followers.

As a PC gamer,
the platform to which come all good things in the end,
let me be the first to say,
there's no way this isn't coming to consoles.
The collection is a cash grab, and excluding other platforms isn't how cash grabs work.
That being said, at least of what we've seen, it doesn't look unforgivably lazy.
I will pick it up at some point, but at a huge discount.
I'm in no rush.
I can happily wait 5 years for something like this to get to an appropriate price.

@naryanrobinson: It is a cash grab. They are releasing it on PC/mobile first so people settle for buying those versions and then when the sales have saturated, they release it on other consoles so people who wanted it on PS/Switch in the first place double dip.

@naryanrobinson: These are NES and SNES games. They can release them on any platform with zero effort. So it's mainly about whether it's worth it for them to do so due to license fees from stores and whatever. And the main question to me is: who is supposed to by this new collection? The few people who are interested but somehow still haven't played any of the countless versions that have been released so far? Or is there any reason to buy them again if you already own those games?

@Atzenkiller: Well uh, I haven't played more than half of the series,
and the reason I haven't bought them
is because it felt to me like the series was such a disjointed mess,
and I didn't want to have to switch from old to new, from original to remaster, from native to emulated, just to get through it in order.
Also because I didn't want to play them without modern QoL features.
This may not be the “superior” version or whatever, but it's perfect for me.

@naryanrobinson: Yeah, you clearly have not heard of emulators, the best way to play these prehistoric games. And emulators even exist for phones nowadays.

Nobody needs a remake or remaster of these NES and SNES games. It doesn't change anything. You don't play these games for their graphics. You only do it for the story. And personally I don't recommend them either. Stick to FF7 and upwards from there. That's when the games got really good. FF6 is really not as great as some people like to make it sound and going further back things only get worse. Not worth playing unless you really don't have anything better to play. Anything at all.

But if you want to play them, download an emulator and download the roms. Buy the games somewhere like on Steam for a few bucks, then you can even play them legally. Paying SE lots of money for the ten thousandth crappy rerelease of these subpar prehistoric games is not a very smart choice. But then most people don't let that stop them.

@Atzenkiller: 6 is the best FF game of all time by a mile. 7 is super overrated but it's popular, hence why they're milking it with the remake. Most of the innovation that 7 is given credit for was actually introduced in 6. Even 9 is better than 7.

@illegal_peanut: SE loves surveys and focus groups. I got paid $300 to play and critique The Last of Us Part 2 (yeah I know it's not their game. I was surprised too) and they offered to pay me for Avengers but I have no interest in that crap.

I mean, they're gonna port them anyway, they've probably just got to fill some contractual obligations first. Remember; just because they're not talking about it doesn't mean it's "never ever ever going to happen please stop asking about it", it just means they're not talking about it right now. See also, everyone who got pissed off that Hades was a Switch exclusive.

I thought the fonts of the PlayStation Wild Arms games and Suikoden Tierkreis on the Nintendo DS looked way worse. Personally, I'm more concerned about errors in some of the initial screenshots like "Bahamur".

@lonesamurai00: Just like how everyone back in the day said you couldn't do cross-play with consoles and PC in shooters because it would be an unfair advantage for mouse and keyboard users. Now PC users are asking devs for options to turn off cross-play or have mouse and keyboard only lobbies because aim assist is "too strong and unfair".

@mcnichoj: I mean, it's literally a cheat that gets you banned on PC. That consoles have to include it or the game would be unplayable on controller speaks for how bad controller is as an input method....

@lonesamurai00: Yeah, you can keep those endless rereleases of SNES games. I doubt anyone is really asking for those. It's not like that's the reason why SE releases them, again. It's just part of their overall business strategy. Rereleasing stuff still causes some people to buy it and you can keep charging higher prices for it again while offering no extra value.

@Atzenkiller: I don't mind it at all, especially since I've never played these before, and I must admit that it's nice being able to play them on any PC, or any kind of PC that I choose rather than just any console.

Price is outrageously too high. Do not get me wrong, these are amazing games and the time sink is well worth it.... but to put a dollar figure on it. I mean episodes of Betwitched, Sanford and Sons, or Three Company should not cost a high percentage of a newly released game. Not 1/2, not 1/3 or even a 1/6.

One thing all platforms have done with digital products over physical is keep the price higher then often times that of physical. Even though they are cutting out the middle men, (shippers, brick and mortar stores, and all the jobs that come with it), none of these savings are coming back to the consumer.

I encourage no one to steal, but I do encourage many to learn how to use emulators and roms tools.

@jenovaschilld: Well, if you're encouraging people to download those roms illegally, then you are promoting piracy.

But as for prices for digital games, I'd say they're generally cheaper. The main difference lies in that digital games generally are only available at a decent price during sales, while for physical copies they keep going down over time and stay down. And one major difference and the reason why digital stores generally win out is that you can get the complete edition with all dlcs there. Which don't get released as phsical copies for most games nowadays. And you might pay the same price for it as for a physical copy of the base game.

@Atzenkiller: This is all very true. I will not disagree.

I would also like to point out to others that with digital, you own nothing. No value at all, once purchased. You are given a lease of a license that is held by the publisher that can be revoke at any time, for any reason.

But at least with physical you can trade it, barter, sale it used, even give it away or let your coworkers borrow it. You can even put it on craigslist for a handjob behind a Denny's if you so chose. More importantly the consumer has choice. ON THAT, I own a lot of digital games on many platforms, but I still buy physical when possible. But even when digital games are on sales, you can often find them still lower physically and or used. Like 13 Sentinels can be bought from game stop for a couple of dollars less then the digital sale above and NEW.

I encourage games to make the best choices possible, including the option of physical, where I believe is the best value for their hard earned money, and a digital only will not be as competitive in the future and not as good of a value.
