That Fire Emblem/SMT cross-over game announced back in 2013 finally has a US release date as well as an English title.

No Caption Provided

Known as Genei Ibun Roku #FE in Japan, the game's localized title will be Tokyo Mirage Sessions # [pronounced "sharp"] FE. We checked it out last year at E3, and we'll have the updated trailer from today's Nintendo Direct presentation, where the name was revealed, right here.

TMS#FE is set to launch on Wii U in the US on June 24.

Can't wait, even if it seems like a silly game. I love Solid jrpg gameplay.

Sorry but that sounds even dumber. Tokyo Mirage Sessions? At least Genei Ibun Roku was in Japanese so you don't know what it means and thus won't question it. I don't see any good reason to change it other than because it is Japanese. But then, they've had no problems calling a game Shin Megami Tensei which is also Japanese.

If anything they should have just called it SMT x FE. Or spell out the abbreviations.

@madsnakehhh: It has a 34/40 on Famitsu and 4/5 stars on Amazon Japan if that's a good sign.

@madsnakehhh: It seems like the Japanese gaming community didn't really care for it, but it may be because of the same reason a lot of people have been turned off by it. When it was announced, many people envisioned something like Namco x Capcom or Project X Zone. What it turned out to be, however, is a spinoff that really only has references to the two franchises and does its own thing.

@Yomigaeru: It being on Wii U already left them on the backfoot.

Games like this aren't Final Fantasy popular. Japan's console market is very small, making it even worse.

It will sell ok here but it won't do gangbusters. It won't chart on NPD, but will have a niche audience passionate about it. I will get the game.

I really hope NX turns up good AND is backward compatible with WII U so I can play some of these games...unless the all digital NX rumor is true, in that case, goodbye forever nintendo

@baral-o: I doubt it will go all digital. That would be a first. Even Sony and MS who are bolder than Nintendo is with pushing online have not dared to tread there just yet. For them to do that they would need to build in a mass storage device (read: HDD), something Nintendo has never done. You can't expect people to buy an external on top of the console and it's a very inelegant solution.

I don't think even PS5 and XB2 will be all digital. Maybe the gen after that, but it's too soon. Much of the world is not ready for it yet due to not good enough internet. For me to download a 50GB game will take 12 hours, and no one else in the house can use the internet during that time. Compare this to heading down to the store and just buying a copy on disc.

When you cut bricks and mortar out of the equation, they will not stock consoles because there's no money to be made on them without any software sales afterward. So how do console makers get their gear out? Will they have to set up their own stores, or go online only?

@baral-o: I really hope the NX isn't backwards compatible. That would mean it would have to support the Wii Remotes. I'm tired of having a sensor bar sitting on my TV. So done with motion controls.

@dominoodle: Nintendo usually does BC with the previous gen but drops it for the gen before that.

Wii U supports Wii but not GC.

Wii supports GC but not N64.

GBA supports GBC.

DS supports GBA.

3DS supports DS but not GBA.

If this pattern holds, NX will support single player Wii U games via tablet controller, but not Wii games or anything that uses Wii motes. Or maybe its new controller will be like a Wii U gamepad and you can just use that one instead.

@lostn: There are a bunch of Wii U games that support or require the Wii remote though. It would be weird if the NX only supported games that didn't use them.

Just seems easier to drop it entirely.

Then again, there would be a lot of Wii U owners who would be pissed if they just bought this console and now it's obsolete and the games they bought won't work on the new one.

Personally i'm okay with moving on from anything with "Wii" in the name.
