First Assassin's Creed Clip Showcases the Movie's New-Look Animus

The long-awaited big screen adaptation of Assassin's Creed arrives in less than a month, and the first full clip has been released. It features death row inmate Callum Lynch, played by Michael Fassbender, about to enter the virtual reality machine known as the Animus. Check it out below:

The claw-like Animus in the movie is rather different to the ones that fans will know from the games series. In September Fassbender revealed that Ubisoft was considering placing the movie version in the game if the film is a success.

Assassin's Creed is directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth), and also stars Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Michael Kenneth Williams.

In a recent interview with Empire, Fassbender spoke about playing a darker, more ambiguous lead role. "It's not like Star Wars, where you've got the light side and the dark side," he said. "This is very ambiguous morally. Both of these parties--the Templars and the Assassins--are hypocritical at certain points. There are not clear-cut good and bad characters.

"I think it's a little more provocative for an audience to see that. You know, 'Should I be feeling that? Should I be backing this character?' That's always fun."

Assassin's Creed hits theaters on December 21, 2016.
