First Look: Fugitive Hunter
Infogrames and Black Ops Entertainment show off their upcoming first-person shooter for the PlayStation 2.
Infogrames and Black Ops Entertainment stopped by today and gave us a look at Fugitive Hunter, the recently announced first-person shooter for the PlayStation 2. The game is set in the real world and puts you in the role of Jake Seaver, a former Navy SEAL who specializes in tracking down fugitives that normal law enforcement can't. The game has a mix of standard first-person shooter and third-person combat elements.
Fugitive Hunter will be structured into a series of missions taking place in Miami, Utah, Paris, the Caribbean, and Afghanistan. The fugitives you set out to apprehend will initially be bad seeds wanted for low-key crimes and consequently won't be much of a problem to nab. However, further into the game you'll be charged with finding more nefarious types who hide in areas of the world that are far less friendly.
Once you've made it to your prey in a level, you will initiate a shift in gameplay by stunning your prey with specific attacks and moving to a third-person fighting sequence. The goal of these sequences is to subdue your target and bring him in alive. These sequences will be divided into fighting segments and simple button-mashing segments. The fighting system offers a variety of moves Jake can use to take out his opponent, such as punches and kicks. Once your opponent is weakened enough, a meter will appear onscreen, and you will be required to fill it by pressing the X button quickly.
The first-person shooting aspects are kept interesting by the variety of weapons you'll be able to purchase in the game with the money you earn from your captures. Seaver's arsenal consists of nine base weapons that offer secondary fire options and can be modified by upgrades and the use of different types of ammunition.
Fugitive Hunter is currently slated to ship this March for the PlayStation 2. The game will be published under the Atari Games label and will offer players the chance to play Centipede while the game is loading.
