First look: Galactic Civilizations
We take a brief look at Stardock's space empire-building game.
Michigan-based Stardock Corporation recently launched the official Web site for its upcoming turn-based strategy game, Galactic Civilizations. The game is a space-based empire-building game that uses the traditional 4X formula--exploration, expansion, exploitation, and extermination. Players will assume the role of a leader of humankind's expansion into the galaxy in the 23rd century. They will have to compete against up to five other computer-controlled races for control of territory. The game will challenge players to determine the best way to use humankind's limited resources, and players will have a great deal of freedom to make decisions and take different actions.
Galactic Civilizations is being designed to maximize replayability. It will feature several ways to win, including military conquest, diplomatic alliances, economic domination, technological advancement, and a variety of random elements that can be used to win the game. The six races in the game all have different strengths and weaknesses and unique strategies for galactic control.
