First look: The War of the Ring

Vivendi Universal Games has released the first screenshots from Liquid Entertainment's upcoming real-time strategy game set in The Lord of the Rings world. The game will let players choose to play as the forces of good or the forces of evil. In the single-player mode, choosing to play as the good faction will lead players through a story-based campaign that features a small group of recognizable characters, while the evil campaign will emphasize large-scale conquest missions. These first screenshots give us an idea of the characters we may see in the game, as both Frodo Baggins and Gollum are shown.

The War of the Ring is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2004. You can check out our previous coverage of the game for more details, and we'll have more information soon.
