First Post-DLC Elden Ring Patch Rebalances Early Difficulty After Community Backlash

Elden Ring has received its first patch since the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, and it makes the first half of the DLC significantly easier.

Elden Ring's first (and only) DLC Shadow of the Erdtree has been out for a few days now, and even long-time Souls players have struggled mightily with some of its bosses. Now, a new patch has boosted the stat bonuses that players receive from the DLC-exclusive Shadow Realm Blessings, which should hopefully help those of you who are stuck in the wilderness.

As shown in the blog post announcing the patch, Calibration Update 1.12.2 has increased the attack and damage negation of the first half of the Shadow Realm Blessings you can obtain, while making the curve for the second half "more gradual." It also slightly increased the attack and damage negation given by the final level of the blessings. The patch notes also mention a known issue where ray-tracing settings are unintentionally turned on, and that some players may need to manually adjust it.

Now Playing: Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC Review

If you're struggling with Shadow of the Erdtree's many difficult bosses, check out our video on how to get better at the game (and Souls-likes in general). In GameSpot's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC review, critic Tamoor Hussain called the expansion a worthy follow-up to a phenomenal game.

"It's an achievement in world-building creativity that stands head-and-shoulders above the rest, with the closest comparison I can make being the late, great Kentaro Miura's Berserk," Hussain wrote. "Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is From Software's victory lap, an unmissable tour de force that is every bit as brilliant as the original game."

The full patch notes are below:

Elden Ring Post-DLC Patch Notes

Attack and damage negation curve scaling of the Scadutree Blessing have been revised.

  • The attack and damage negation has been increased for the first half of the maximum amount of Blessing enhancements, and the second half will now be more gradual.
  • The attack and damage negation granted by the final level of Blessing enhancements has been slightly increased.

The calibration update can be applied by logging into the multiplayer server.

If the Calibration Ver. listed at the bottom right of the title menu is not "1.12.2", then select LOGIN and apply the latest regulations before enjoying the game.

Oh no, now I'll never be able to complete the DLC and have it be considered legitimate by some people!

@paperwarior17: I lol'd at your comment because it's so true. I have platinumed every Soulsborne from FromSoft and both Nioh games, but you know who cares? That's right, no one. No one cares. No one is impressed. The Soulsborne fairy is never going to visit me in the middle of the night and reward me for my sweatiness.
