The Ring was part of the wave of Hollywood remakes of Japanese horror movies in the 2000s, alongside the likes of The Grudge and Dark Water. The 2003 film was followed by The Ring Two a couple of years later, and now a third film, Rings, is set to hit theaters in October. Check the first trailer out below:

Rings once more centres upon a videotape that passes a deadly curse from person to person when it is watched. The movie stars Matilda Lutz and Alex Roe, plus Daredevil's Vincent D'Onofrio.

The first movie was directed by Pirates of the Caribbean's Gore Verbinski and starred Naomi Watts. It was a box office success, earning $249.3 million, and Watts returned for the 2005 sequel. The original Japanese Ringu was also hugely successful, and inspired a wave of Japanese horror movies in the 2000s.

Rings hits theaters on October 28, 2016.
