Fortnite Players Are Roleplaying As Taxi Drivers

They're helping players get across the map and complete challenges.

Fortnite players have been driving each other across the map in taxis after the recent Joy Ride update. Some hunt down the yellow vehicles as soon as they land so they can spend the entire match behind the wheel.

"I was taxiing people from Retail Row to Pleasant Park and this kind human being filled up my tank along the way multiple times," said Redditor Mtaylor0812_. "What game am I even playing anymore? I love this."

The Joy Ride update brought taxis, sedans, trucks, and sports cars into Fortnite and players are having the time of their lives messing with them. At first they ran their own gas stations, filling up enemy cars as they rolled through, and now they're actively helping one another complete challenges. One of the Week 8 challenges was to drive between Retail Row to Pleasant Park--why not grab a taxi instead?

"I'm also a taxi in the game," said Redditor Reflective Ruby, who has been looking for a way to play with other players without fighting. "I like being friendly and a lot of people don't shoot at me this way."

Just like real Ubers and taxis, passengers can be jerks. Some players have eliminated their drivers after getting a ride. Other, more reasonable players have learned to try and use the taxi hailing emote to get drivers to pull over. It doesn't always work.

It's not limited to taxis, either. Players have even gone to one another's rescue by driving into the middle of a fire fight, honking, and then driving their future enemy to safety. The taxi trend is spreading as more players try to ferry their enemies from named location to named location.

"It ain't much," Redditor ShadowVTJ said. "But it's honest work."
