Forza Horizon 2 Being Removed From Sale On Xbox One Soon

The game and all of its DLC will be removed from the Xbox Store.

It's the end of the road for Microsoft's racing game Forza Horizon 2. Microsoft has announced that the 2014 racing game will be removed from the Xbox Store on September 30. As part of the game reaching "end of life" status, all of its DLC will also be yanked.

If you already own the game, you can still play it, while you'll also be able to re-download it should you need to delete it to clear up space. It's not immediately clear if Forza Horizon 2's online services will remain available after the game is removed from sale.

Now Playing: Forza Horizon 2 and For Honor Free With Xbox Games With Gold

Microsoft's official statement didn't say anything about this (via Polygon).

Microsoft did not say why it is removing Forza Horizon 2 from the Xbox Store, but there is a pattern for "sunsetting" the Horizon games. Microsoft de-listed Forza Horizon 1 back in 2016, which was four years after it was initially released in 2012. Whatever the case, you should absolutely go download Forza Horizon 2 now, as it's free for Xbox Live Gold members currently.

Forza Horizon 3 remains available to buy from the Xbox Store. The next entry, Forza Horizon 4, launches in early October for Xbox One and PC. It's developed by Playground Games, a UK studio that made the earlier titles; it was recently acquired by Microsoft.

Okay so I have a question. If we got this game for free on Gold will me still be able to play it or will the game just disappear from our xbox? We are just really new to the gaming world so I didnt know if I needed to actually buy a physical copy to make sure we are able to keep playing the game.

Download it now for free and you dont need to worry afterwards even if you have to delete if you worry about your HDD space.

There are pros and contras about physical vs digital media but once your disc is damaged, you are out of luck...here we have a pro for the digital version, you can re-download it anytime if your HDD makes you trouble (a contra...as long xbox live exists) ?

What a ridiculous story. The game is literally going out of print. That’s it! Digital and newer physical copies won’t be sold. You know, like the majority of your current collection. But you’ll still be able to get a physical copy and do whatever you want with it.

Honestly, think before you write going forward. The comments in this thread are so silly and paranoid.

@Sevenizz: There is no "print run" of a digital product you goober. If I had to take a shot at why its being removed (a reason that isn't bullshit that is), I'd have to guess it's because of licensing.

Yet another casualty of licensing BS. Something really needs to be done about the way games with licensed content are handled.

Games that helped define genres (like the early NFS games for example) end up unable to be sold and in the past it's been up to pirates or those dedicated to preservation to ensure these games aren't lost forever. When it comes to games with DLC, it's going to be an uphill struggle.

@mclarenmaster18: So? Ever heard of physical media?

Btw, it’s still a thing.

@mclarenmaster18: Who cares about it being removed digitally? It’ll exist on eBay forever.

You paranoids are acting like your game is being taken away. It’s not - it’s just going out of print. Like most media

@Sevenizz: Yes, you may be able to acquire an copy on Ebay or wherever, but as long as there is an demand for that particular game paying the price it may demand may not be pleasing to some.

At least everybody gets it free before they get rid of it. So you can always download it again whenever you want.

EA level garbage right here. No reason to ever pull a digitally distributed game from sale.

@Thanatos2k: expiring licenses. Would be costly to renew.

@sakaixx: My first thought, dont know why people dont understand that. On a lesser note I remember Vice City when it re-released on ps3 had to take out MJ song that played during start due to licenses being expired.

Any one know why they do this? They did it with the first one and Alan Wake as well.

@ice12tray: It's usually license issues(music, cars) that cause it. What is funny is that they're doing the same thing they did with the original Forza Horizon. Gave it away for free with Games with Gold, then the following month it was delisted.

@supermariomelee: That's rather nice of them tbh. I wish they'd have done it with the Forza 4 DLC, instead of just unceremoniously delisting it with no comments whatsoever.
