Free Deus Ex Graphics Upgrade Mod Launching Today on PC

This fan-made mod is authorized by Square Enix and is looking good.

Deus Ex: Revision, the fan-made mod that updates the 2000 PC game's graphics and more, is launching today, October 13, as a free download on Steam. Created by mod team Caustic Creative and authorized by Square Enix, the mod aims to offer more than a simple graphics makeover. Watch its launch trailer below.

"Where other projects fill in detail around the edges of the game by tuning gameplay mechanics or improving textures, we focus on the visceral core of the Deus Ex experience, bringing new level design, aesthetic direction, and world-building detail," Caustic Creative lead John French said in a statement.

For its part, Eidos Montreal boss David Anfossi praised Caustic's mod, calling it a "fantastic way" for both veteran fans of the franchise and newcomers alike to see what the series is all about.

Deus Ex: Revision will be available sometime later today on Steam at this page.

In addition, Deus Ex: Game of the Year edition and Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut are on sale this week for 80 percent off as part of Steam's "Stealth Sale," which runs through October 16. This sale doesn't appear to have gone live yet, as it's not published on Steam's website as of this writing.

The next core Deus Ex game is Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which launches in February 2016 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Recently, Square Enix ditched the game's controversial preorder program.

2015 marks the 15th anniversary of the Deus Ex franchise.

And Deus EX is so damn cheap on the Steam store! In my location it costs around 80 cents, nice price to load this mod into and play the game again, Deus EX got me into PC gaming, along with StarCraft.

This is fantastic news. Deus Ex was a great game, but it's managed to hold up graphically about about as well as the Atari 2600 era games have.

I've been following this for some time, and i was wondering if they were actually gonna use this as a marketing thing, before the new game releases. It does make me wonder why they limited it to Steam (DRM), which is a shame and makes it a no-brainer for those not using it to turn elsewhere.

Very cool, I'll check it out. Started another playthrough recently but set it aside, mostly due to outdated graphics, so this may help.

Anyone know how this compares to New Vision, HDTP, and EMB?

http://www.moddb.com/mods/new-vision

http://www.moddb.com/mods/project-hdtp

EDIT: This setup is what I'm running with currently. Wondering if I should bother with this one.

EDIT 2: NVM! It's included. What does this do beyond them beside the soundtrack and item placement then I wonder....

What a company would charge 60$ on console as an 'HD remaster', PC crowd does it for free.

"Notice: This mod requires Deus Ex on Steam."

DRM'ed mod...

What about people who bought the game on GOG? =(

Looks awesome. Still wish they would give us an official Halo-Style Anniversary edition of the game with modern graphics laid out over the classic, though with a game like this that might be trickier to pull off. Might be better with a Rise of the Triad-style remake instead. Last I checked, it and Shadow Warrior were both really faithful to their predecessors.

This New Vision mod ? , looks so nice for a DX1 game , for those saying it looks old , it looks clean and polished when booted up with mods , has an old school charm without making the screen look like someone smeared Vaseline over the screen, fantastic bit of modding, start to finish the best Deus Ex to date.

Woah, I was just looking at their website the other day and there had been no updates. Didn't realize they were that close to finishing it. Excellent, I have been waiting for this mod. A game I play every year at least once getting a massive update is never a bad thing. People talking about this still looking like it did when it came out: it's never going to look as good as today's games unless Eidos does a complete remake of the game, so calm yourselves. This is still awesome for fans. If we're going to be playing the game again, at least it looks nicer and we get some pretty awesome additions.

I don't know. I liked the original but level design was just not very good. MJ-12 hiding in the sewers right below the street or Silhouette just corridors away from their enemy with no doors separating them? Come on.

STill looks like a 15 year old game, let bygons be bygons

What we need it a current gen deus ex. Human revolution was a step in the right direction but it wasn't good enough for the name deus ex. I hope mankind divided can set things straight. I know you can do it square enix.

Still looks like an N64 game. But, props for trying. That's the spirit of modding.
