Free PS3 And PS Vita Games Not Included In PS Plus From 2019

Minus some stuff from Plus.

From March 8, 2019, Sony will no longer offer PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita titles for free as part of a PlayStation Plus subscription. In a PS Plus update on the PlayStation Blog, the platform holder said it "will focus on PS4 titles" instead. The company has since confirmed to GameSpot that it will not be replacing the lower number of free games with more PS Plus games, meaning the total number of games given away each month with PS Plus from March next year will be two, down from six right now.

"This won't affect any games you've already downloaded, or will download, prior to March 8, 2019," it continued. "Those games will still be part of your PS Plus games library as long as you remain a member." It emphasized that game saves and other benefits will not be changed.

Now Playing: Free PS4/PS3/Vita PlayStation Plus Games For March 2018 Revealed

"Many of our fans are playing on the PS4 platform, with the increasingly vast number of PS4s in homes around the world," Sony continued. "We'll continue to prioritize the benefits you receive through your PS Plus membership, such as online multiplayer, online game save storage, PS4 monthly games, and exclusive PS Store discounts across content and network services."

Looking ahead, Sony said there are "plenty of new games and exclusive PS Store discounts to come for PS Plus members, and we look forward to sharing this with you."

PlayStation Plus, as a service, launched on the PS3 with Wipeout HD, LittleBigPlanet, and Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty as part of some its earliest freebies. Over the years it has come to be a big draw for existing and prospective PlayStation hardware owners. For some games, launching as a free PS Plus title has propelled their games into the limelight and, in the case of Rocket League, huge success.

In the same update, Sony announced March's free games for PS Plus. Bloodborne and Ratchet & Clank will be available on PS4, while PS3 owners get Mighty No. 9. Those with a PlayStation Vita can also download Claire: Extended Cut and Bombing Busters for free.

Fair enough. And they're giving basically a year's warning, AND both platforms are fairly dead in the U.S. (although vita is still supported-you can't BUY one, but there's some good new games coming out pretty regularly from third parties).

This isn't a good way to compete with what Microsoft is offering with XBox Game Pass.

Firstly the games are not "free" as you are renting them with your subscription, when that stops you cannot play them.

Dropping 6 games to 2, well that sums up the market doesn't it, pay more year year and get less and less with it, im glad i have kids now and dont get chance to play online, cancelling my subscription ages ago.

At least switch has now subscription yet, until September anyway.

Going from 6 games to 2, regardless of the discount, is pretty steep - especially when in the UK (not sure about other countries) they actually upped the price of the subscription.

The benefits of PS Plus just keep getting better and better, totally worth the cost of admission, thus PC Gamers who brag about free online multiplayer don't know they're talking about, just look at all you're getting with PS Plus.

@Blk_Mage_Ctype: Two borrowed indie games per month and access to a service that seemingly has outages every other week for 60 bucks a year. It's a steal!

Maybe both MS and Sony should stop making hardware and just make games for PC. It makes sense in every way to have one big powerful platform and system you make your way. There is really no limitations, games from all periods of time can be played, games look and run best, mods for games, free online etc.

Dont get me wrong, love my PS consoles, own every one of them but consoles are starting het out dated pretty fast by PC. And this whole 4K push when many games couldn't always run 1080p at 60 fps most of the time.

@dudebropartyyo: not really. Over a hundred million people clearly prefer consoles. Sure, you can do anything on pc you can on console, and get better framerate and/or graphical fidelity, but many people still choose console over pc for many reasons.

@Zzshock: I know that. Its not just about graphics and frame rate but the massive amount of games on only one platform. Main reasons people still do buy consoles are the size, even tho you can build PC that size and future modular PC's and people think thats its overly expensive and complicated to build. I thought the same and after i built my first one i was like its like lego really, just pay attention and use manual.

Thats always one of the answers i get. People also dont realize that having one platform would make parts so much cheaper

PS+ will be more worthless next year. PS3 was a great console with a big library of games. Give us BC on PS5 greedy bastards.

Idk why people think this possibly means a ps5 next year. I think its to early for that. I think a 2020 release makes more sense. They are making a lot of money on ps4 so why stop and come out with a new generation?

I would suspect this is the prelude to them shutting down PSN and the PSN Store on PS3 and PS Vita. The PS3 is 11 years old and the Vita is 6 and never took off.

If sony doesn't care about the ps3 or vita anymore they should do at least 1 more update on each allowing them to be hacked. It would help them liquidate their remaining inventory and let us modders have the ps3/vita we always dreamed of without having to pay a lot of money for consoles running exploitable firmware.

@jonnybrownieboy: won't ever happen and to suggest so is lunacy. It doesn't benefit Sony at all. Besides that why do they want to look soft on piracy? They'd lose publishers on their platform.

@dragonsama: Yes, that's the only reason they won't do it, they just have to be though with piracy.

@dragonsama:

Considering that 3rd party developers have abandoned the ps3 and ps vita, I highly doubt any developers actually care whether the consoles are hackable or not. Also it's not being soft on piracy if it's for outdated tech that only supports games that developers don't make revenue off of anymore. Besides why do you assume it's for piracy? Some of us like to have CFW for the cool features that developers never put into the consoles like custom themes, mods, state saves, speedhacks or in the PS3's case, being able to run Linux on it.

Hell if Nintendo, which is notorious for its anti piracy methods, had a chance to shut down a hardware based exploit when they launched the new 2ds xl, did nothing about it despite being aware of the issue basically giving people the green light to run CFW on it, why couldn't don't do the same with the ps3 and ps vita which as a result would help them sell off the rest of their consoles?

@jonnybrownieboy: If they did that then 3rd party Developers would stop making games for ANY Sony platform that means no more 3rd party games on PS4, PS5 or whatever console Sony would make next.

@freedom01: The way things are going this cycle I would have to agree with you on that. I can definitely see a whole bunch of hardware dropping from all the big name companies in 2020.

Crazy to look back on the mid 90's when companies were churning out brand new hardware every 2-3 years.

I see nothing wrong with this, were nearing to the next generation, and they already gave enough that they probably don't have anything else to offer. As for the Vita, well, there is nothing to actually offer since there hasn't been any major releases for it outside of Japan, all that is to offer are indie games. Though it would have been nice to give a little more insight on what they will improve by removing the two platforms. Will they raise the quality of free games released for the PS4? Will they improve other services offered in the PS Plus subscription? Or will they add new services?

I really wish they would put the PS1 classics on the PlayStation store. I would love to be able to play all the ones I’ve bought on there without having to switch to my PS3.
