Friday the 13th Game -- Tommy Jarvis Will Be a Playable Character

Thom Mathews will play the character in the 2017 horror game.

The developers behind Friday the 13th: The Game have confirmed that the character Tommy Jarvis will appear in the new game as a playable character portrayed by Thom Mathews.

As reported by RelyOnHorror, Jarvis will work alongside the camp counselors as they try to stay alive as Jason tries to kill them. As you can see in the announcement trailer, Jarvis' famous taunt ("maggot head!") is in here, while the likeness is based on Mathews. He was the third actor to play Jarvis, following John Shepherd and Corey Feldman.

We can see that Jarvis wields a shotgun, but his other abilities are unknown.

Friday the 13th: The Game received more than $800,000 in its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. Its original goal was $700,000, and it met stretch goals to add three different kills.

In other news, the game was recently delayed to 2017, in part to give the team time to make a single-player campaign. People who preorder the game early through its beta--get more details here.

@7tizz so basically instead of a game that has been fully developed youd rather get a flawed/incomplete version of the game??? So many things to say but i cant really understand your reasoning. Thats like saying hey i know my burger is done i want it now ill get my cheese and bun later after i eat my meat lol....

I wonder if they are going to add Tina as a DLC, There are soo many character that Jason has taken on, some have lost and some have won. There are so many possibilities.

i have to be honest with you all and yes, this is all truthfully true. making a game based on Friday the 13th, The Movie is a brilliant move because there are so many games based on movies that i just want to tell whoever came up with this great idea, "BRAVO". i am not being rude or nothing because i TRULY DO love the idea.

@RoccoHout: I was hoping Kevin Bacon's character from the original would make an appearance too. His death was so brutal and gory, I would love to relive that scene in the game. And what about Pamela Voorhees, any word on her? It would be so epic if they could make a kill or scene where little boy monster Jason pulls someone out of their boat into Crystal Lake!! EPIC!!

@7tizz: Got greedy? That's one of the dumbest statement that I have heard this year. How is trying to make the game better something to be consider greedy? Having a single campaign mode is relevant of a complete game. Probably 90% of games out there always future a single player campaign mode. This game in my opinion was begging to have one and many people after finding out that this game would not have one they were not happy about it and I guess they heard the people and decided to add the mode to the game. It will make the game better and will give the buyer something more to do with this extra mode added to the game.

@7tizz: There are a lot of games out there with better multiplayer than campaign mode I'm not saying no to that but what I'm saying is how can you complain about having an extra mode and getting a bigger experience and more hours to your playing time and just getting a lot more for your buck.

@7tizz: Dude, everybody has been keeping their eye on this game since being announced in the hopes of a single player campaign. I mean, you can only have and do so much with the limited gameplay of an online multiplayer game. Sure, I like it in some games and get involved in certain battles and matches with friends, but single player is what most of the original backers (myself included) have been begging for from the gate. The sales will most likely triple what they would have been just for this one decision. And then being able to play as Tommy Jarvis from the films is like the diehard Jason fans dream. I am a F13th diehard fan and how (no matter how you put it) adding Tommy and a single player campaign is bad or greedy just doesn't quite make any sense. In fact, when new modes or new content gets added, I'm pretty sure it is ALWAYS a GREAT thing. Sure, I'm hyped for the MP mode, but far more for the single player and by the way, I've played games where the AI is as far from scripted as it gets and next to impossible to defeat so that doesn't work either. You have just been playing the wrong games!

@7tizz: Because like I said I am a huge fan of the films and would have still played it had single player not made it in. But from watching the reactions and hype behind it, I figured that a lot of extra money would be made, enough to add it in. The devs said in an interview early when the game 1st got announced that a single player mode would be the goal but "not to get our hopes up because it would require much more funding". I don't think they knew how much ppl love the series. All in all, it will be that much better of a game with it, yeh delay sucks but I think it will be well worth the wait. Both modes for both play styles. Everybody wins!

@7tizz: No problem but wouldn't it make more sense to go ahead and add it in and fulfill all the fan's wishes instead of those who were strictly in it for the co-op. I am quite sure they were getting bombarded with requests for the single player.

@7tizz: So you just feel entitled. I'm also a backer, and I'd rather wait till the game is complete. As I'd say to every developer; Take your sweet ass time. Plenty of other games to play or things to do in general in the mean time. Jesus.

@7tizz: The Singleplayer aspect of the game isn't coming out until later (Summer 2017) not day one. The Multiplayer only got pushed back a few months to Early 2017, so they can get started on Singleplayer earlier, rather than release the game and then get started on Singleplayer, so that we can get it sooner, instead of maybe Winter 2017.

Am I a backer? Yes. Do I care about the date being pushed back? No.

Also, the game was originally set for FALL 2016, which is vaild until Dec 22, which is now pretty much the time frame for the beta. Where people kept are getting the "October 2016" date was the Kickstarter campaign that needed a specific date to be chosen and after the scope of the game had changed early this year (things like the in-game Twitch Support being voided by Twitch), they had to re-order the scope of the backer-kit stretch goals, which offered things that would take more codin, thus the date had to be more fluid.

The game is going through a polishing stage right now, so a lot of the look and mechanics are being tweaked, but the offering of counselors and Jasons to play as will be limited, so that the former is solid. A lot of what they aren't showing us is really just superficial, but at the same time, stuff that they want to surprise us with, such as "How to defeat Jason". We already know the several ways to escape. We know how to win as Jason. We know you can heal in the game. I don't know what you think isn't all that "completed" that it's going to set the game further back than 2017, let alone the current deadline.

Now onto the "greedy" part. The team had to cut off what funds they could get after the it almost reached the Tommy Jarvis stretch goal. They still wanted to included it in the MP release and are doing so. The Singleplayer thing, they can't touch the money for that, nor have they even reached the funding for it, as they need to be paid now to do it, rather than later, like Summer 2017, but they made that decision to do it, anyway.

So, you say that you've been following it closely, but... I'm not seeing that. You do know that Single Player was in the original stretch goals, right? The demand for it was there during and after the Kickstarter, especially with so many people that missed the Kickstarter. The reason why it was taking longer in Backerkit, though, is because they couldn't offer up some of the bigger backer perks, like being a counsellor in the game.

The original intent of the game would have been a $5M dollar budget, rather than the $800K it came to be, so don't tell me that they didn't want to try make a blockbuster, when they wanted Singleplayer, a remake of the original NES game, Pamela Voorhees, Manhattan and Grendel maps. Just don't.

You might have not asked for Singleplayer, but that's not the consensus of everyone that backed it, myself included. My internet connection (because Australia is only just getting fibre internet now) was trash at the time and it would have made playing the game, let alone streaming it a nightmare, so I'm quite lucky that I have fibre now, but you're the vocal minority of Kickstarter Backers on this.

Wonder if they'll put other monsters in it also or just Jason. It'll be more boring than alien isolation if not.

@truemack69: Jason will be OP and more on your ass than Alien: Isolation, which... Had more enemies than just the Alien, so I don't know how adding a few more monsters would make it any different, if not just retarded.

@7tizz: It also means you are bashing someone for the way he likes to play.

I guess you gotta let that anger out after everyone here bash you for being an xbox fangirl.

I'm definitely in, even if just for a short while for nostalgia/novelty factor.

...and the all-time classic sleeping bag kill.

@gamingdevil800: Correct. First time Jason was ever actually defeated was in part 4, by Corey Feldman. (...who went on to find great success with crack or heroin or something.)

But at the time, it was a stand-up-and-cheer moment in theaters and/or VHS.

Glad to see there will be some offensive capabilities (gun) given to characters--though I'm not sure how much good they will be against Jason. That's my main issue with some similar games out now, they seem to be more about just avoiding to survive.

@Pyrosa: Jason can break the windows, so that they do damage, if you go through them, again and you can jump through windows, hurting yourself in the process, but also making the window harmful to go back through... Hmmm...
