From Software Announces The Duskbloods, A New RPG Exclusive To Switch 2

From Software has announced a new RPG, The Duskbloods, exclusive to the Switch 2 console.

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 broadcast, From Software announced a brand-new title, The Duskbloods, which will be exclusive to the new console.

The Duskbloods appears to be centered around vampires, or similar creatures, and features a range of familiar From Software mechanics and gameplay. Nintendo's press release describes it as a multiplayer game, although it doesn't share any further details. The official site notes it supports up to eight players.

The Duskbloods is exclusive to the Switch 2 console.

It looks to bear the same challenging combat style, as well as impressive and immersive worldbuilding. The trailer begins with a scarred hand reaching out to another, and a female voice stating, "I give you my blood. I give you my life. Turn, oh wheel, and transport him to a night of moonlight, to humanity's very dusk." This could be interpreted as the method of humanity turning into a vampiric state.

Next, several different scenic cuts were shown before a silver-haired man stands atop a tall building surveying a city, a dark-haired man draws a sword-like blade, and a woman wearing traditional Japanese attire poses. A short creature clad in armor wades through a dark pool, before launching a jetpack to quickly cross a canyon.

Characters appear to be able to hover in midair for short periods of time, and the silver-haired character is seen biting the neck of an enemy, lending further credibility to the vampire-like-creature theory.

Many weird enemies await in The Duskbloods

While there is an element of history in the scenes shown, vehicles including trains and weapons including guns suggest The Duskbloods timeline is set more recently than Elden Ring's 5,000 years ago. Having said that, the trailer did also feature a human-eating dinosaur, so who knows? You can check out our The Duskbloods trailer breakdown for more.

While no specific date was announced, it was confirmed that The Duskbloods will be released in 2026 as a Switch 2 exclusive.

First I wanted to say this looks like Bloodborne made by 13 years olds. I reminded myself about April Fool's Day - this got to be fake, right? So I googled it and it says it's actually From Software game. What the the **** is going on?

First they make Night Regin (which looks like recycled trash). And now a Nintendo Switch Exclusive. So basically the middle finger to the majority of paying customers who got them to where they are.

@ShimmerMan: I think Fromsoft's talent at making good games got them where they are.

@mogan:

Tomato/tomato.

The point is finding and obtaining a new customer base doesn't happen at the flip of a switch. It takes time. It is far harder to obtain new customers than it is to maintain the ones you have.

And the ones they have are overwhelmingly single player gaming focused. Some can - and will - argue that nearly all From games have always been multiplayer in some way and that is true. But in a far, FAR more limited way. Multiplayer has always been incidental, a true extra, far from the focus.

Certainly not the core part of the experience. And therefore From's customer base was built around a certain type of experience. Now From is hurting their brand by making games that will not appeal to their core customers.

The games themselves may still be good. And over time, they may develop a new loyal customer base. But putting out two multifocused games in a row is definitely not where their bread has traditionally been buttered.

Other than Armored Core, I've 100% completed every From game since the original PS3 Demon's Souls. I won't be playing either Nightreign or the Duskbloods. I have zero interest in either one.

Ahhhh Nintendo, get with the times. Exclusives are lame and anti-consumer.

Then again, if it's the only reason to use your hardware, I guess I would cling to the lame practice as well.

Also disappointed in FromSoft, had a good run there.

"This software for Nintendo Switch 2 is a PvPvE- based multiplayer action game in which up to eight players can fight each other and against enemies. Players become" Twilight Bloodlines" who have gained powers beyond those of humans through the power of their special blood, and throw themselves into a fierce battle for the" First Blood"."

From the Fromsoft JP page on the game, kind of makes it sound like an extraction game or something, big no thank you if that's the case.

@Xylymphydyte: OOF. That's... oh no. PvPvE may be my most hated type of game. I doubt even FromSoft can make one that I'd care to play... we'll have to see, but that sounds like a big "no thank you" from me as well.

Though I'm curious how this game even works. It says "up to 8 players". Does that mean someone could theoretically invite 7 friends and just not engage in PvP with them? Also, is there an offline mode? Private lobbies where you only do 2 player co-op PvE? So many questions.

Big power play by Nintendo, securing a FromSoft exclusive like that. Hopefully it stays exclusive like Astral Chain did for Switch, but this may be an Octopath or Daemon X Machina situation where we see it come to PC a year later.

I got my hopes up until I read it was multiplayer focused.

I played the Elden Ring Nightreign beta and it's not what I want out of a From game. I'm not excited anymore after hearing this.

I don't even know why they would do this for a portable game, that doesn't really make sense at all. What a bad fit for the system.

@girlusocrazy:

This is kind of where I'm at. HUGELY not a fan of From's recent heavy switch to being multiplayer focused.

@BeefoTheBold: I hope to be proven wrong and they add in a good single player experience... but it was a real excitement at first and then a big letdown when I found out about this.
