After our look at the warding data yesterday we wanted to follow up with another data-dump of the Damage Dealt to Champions from the Worlds Group Stage.

Damage to Champions per Minute by Champion

In order to properly evaluate players and teams we have to look at champions because Damage to Champions actually varies significantly depending on which champion is being played. Typically champions with good range deal more damage but there are exceptions like Rumble.

  • Kha'Zix is an interesting outlier for junglers, without him junglers average 197 Damage to Champions per Minute (DMG/Min), making his own damage 80% higher than the average without him.
    • This will be important to note when looking at players, as Lee Sin players (Amazing) get naturally less DMG/Min than Kha'Zix players (Svenskeren).
  • Out of the ADCs, probably the most consistent role in LoL, Corki is looking strong in here with a sizable sample of games with strong damage, probably due to his ult's AoE and poke potential. Surprisingly was Tristana who got significantly less than the average ADC, probably due to her not focusing on teamfights until late in the game, while this is a whole-game stat.
  • Lulu in top lane vs mid had a really wide spread of damage, getting 2x as much DMG/Min mid lane than she did top lane, showing to me how much of an island top is on that she participates in much less fights.

Damage to Champions per Minute by Player

  • Deft, Uzi, and Imp clearly show their dominance as ADCs with a sizable lead over the rest of the players.
  • One player I expected to do better in this stat was Rekkles, who is seen as a "positional" ADC (which means he should excel in this Stat Category) but did not size up to Deft or Namei.
  • Lee Sin does so little damage that LemonNation actually placed higher in the DMG/Min than Amazing and 4 other junglers.
  • Despite xPeke and Pawn not particularly playing many poke champions they were up there with the top ADCs, a strong performance.
  • Wickd who was statistically strong in other categories (2nd highest KDA out of top laners, behind Looper) was really weak in this category, getting 16th out of top laners.

Team by Team Breakdown of Dmg to Champions

The first thing to look at before we break down how each team distributes their damage we should look at the role average, here is a chart showing the typical distribution between the roles.

Now, with this in mind, we can look at how each team matches up to this model by looking at how much each player did in relation to this average above.

  • As mentioned on the broadcast Samsung Blue's distribution is crazy with Deft dealing 45% of his team's damage to champions, the highest % increase in a core dmg role.
  • The highest % increase goes to Loveling though who got a huge 60% increase relative to his role. Even more impressive than that was that he only played Kha'Zix in 3 of those games!
  • SHRC has a really weird distribution, while every other team has their mid in either 1st or 2nd in terms of DMG/Min their mid is actually 4th, behind both the top laner and jungle (and the top laner is still below-average!).
  • Cloud 9 has LemonNation dealing a significant amount of damage, maybe ties in to how he is one of the supports least invested in vision, he is a "teamfight oriented" support player.
