Gal Gadot Confirms Joss Whedon Threatened Her Career During Justice League Reshoots

In a new interview, the Wonder Woman star states that Whedon threatened to "make my career miserable."

Gal Gadot has commented on reports that director Joss Whedon threatened her career during Justice League reshoots in 2017. The Wonder Woman star confirmed the story on the Israel TV show N12 News.

During the interview, N12 News reporter Yuna Leibzon asked Gadot about reports that her attempts to change the way Wonder Woman was portrayed in the film were blocked by Whedon. "He even said you should just be pretty and say your lines. You weren't going to let him get away with it," Leibzon said.

Gadot then confirmed that this had happened, and that she dealt with it right away. "What I had with Joss basically is that he kind of threatened my career and said if I did something he would make my career miserable," she said. "I handled it on the spot." Check the interview footage below:

Whedon joined Justice League after original director Zack Snyder left the production, and oversaw reshoots and post-production. The reports about his behavior towards Gadot were first revealed in The Hollywood Reporter, which stated the star wanted Wonder Woman's character to be more consistent across all the DC movies she appeared in. In December, she alluded to Whedon's threats, telling the LA Times, "I had my own experience with [Whedon], which wasn't the best one, but I took care of it there and when it happened. I took it to the higher-ups, and they took care of it."

The accusations against Whedon started last year, when Cyborg actor Ray Fisher accused the director of abuse towards him and other cast and crew members. He also singled out producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg for enabling it, and more recently has accused executive Walter Hamada of covering up their behavior and interfering with the studio's subsequent investigation. The accusations against Whedon go beyond Justice League too, with Charisma Carpenter recently speaking out about his behavior during the making of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

If somebody wrote Joss Whedon, I'd be like, "This villain sucks, he doesn't even act like a real person."

Geez these comments make me depressed.

So because Hollywood has always been full of assholes anyone that tries to change that is wrong and a "whiny bitch"? So we should all get back to work sun to sun right? That's how it has always been...

And while Gal Gadot complained and WB solved the problem because her star power was already too great to ignore, Ray Fisher was ok to throw under the bus. And he was the only one to actually risk his career to bring to light someone that shouldn't be working a long time ago. I mean have you seen what Michelle Trachtenberg said about him? Lot more serious than "just" bullying.
I mean maybe lately Ray is annoying but he was the only one with courage to expose Joss Whedon. Everyone else (including the rest of JL cast) just ignored the shit around them.

@Judeuduarte: It could have done more appropriately instead of an online campaign. If he encountered what he said he did, that is unfortunate.

But Ray has gone so far beyond that. It's going to create a situation where no one will want to work with him. The old saying, don't "beat a dead a horse with a stick." He made the point months ago and now he's trying to become sort of advocate. Whereas if he had just expressed his piece and let it go, he'd have movies lined up for years on end.

@sonic_spark: "It could have done more appropriately instead of an online campaign" it´s my (very limited) understanding that he went online because he (unlike Gadot) wasn't satisfied with how things were (not) taken care of. And considering how little he appears in the Whedon cut comparing with the Snyder cut it really seems like Joss Whedon tried to punish him.

Now I acknowledged that lately he does seem to be exagerating (but I don't follow this case with a lot of attention so I couldn't tell you for sure). But people in the comments are saying that if he (and Gadot) can't deal with a bully director (and that seems to be just the smallest of his problems) should change careers. I mean imho anybody that thinks that should be working as a farmer for a feudal lord 400 years ago.

At least Ray Fisher should be praised for having the courage to expose what seems like a very very bad dude. With risk for his own career.

@sonic_spark: No doubt. If he brought it to light and had dropped it like you said he would be signed on for so much more thanks to the Snyder cut release. Right now he is only signed on for only one other project.

The way things are going, I'm surprised the media isn't saying this is Sexual Assault.

So the guy is a d*ck. Who cares? Don't work with him then. But wait... She made 30 MILLION to make that movie. 30 F'N Million.

For that much money, "just be pretty and say your lines" isn't so offensive.

People have to deal with sh*t every day. These spoiled actors need to grow some thicker patches of skin.

@dirtydyk: she did it the best way possible I think in comparison to Fisher. It happened, talk to the higher ups, matter done. Compared to a several year long campaign dragging as many people through the mud as possible and throwing others into it without their consent all in a tantrum.

@stunningham: OH I agree with you. Fisher has buried his career. He went after Whedon and got every director watching it, then he went after Warner and now every production company is looking at this guy and asking if it's worth the risk. It isn't and Warner will run out his contract and that's it for him.

All I am saying here is that the idea that everyone will accommodate your feelings is stupid.

Whedon is a d*ck... Maybe... Probably, yes... I think it's pretty clear by now that the smoke comes with some fire, but abusive? Nah. Sorry.

Honestly at this point can we just move on from all this Whedon bashing? So the guy is a dick. Guess what? So is a huge portion of other people in the entertainment business. These stories are getting old.

@blankfaced: yes, because anyone else power tripping is ok.

Because misogynist lyrics in hip hop is ok (and completely ignored or passed off as “culture”).

Because the “white man” boogeyman is everywhere and is always trying to destroy the world.

Because hypocrisy isn’t just a funny looking word in the dictionary.

Because if some people didn’t have double standards they would have none.

@zaphod83: exactly. Cry me a River. “Sticks and stones” millennials. It’s getting old that anyone who said something that goes against mommy’s declaration that they were perfect and the most wonderful human ever made. Of course, there is a line and I’m not condoning that anyone be given the Private Pyle treatment, but some of this is getting far out of hand.

Beware the bed you make people.

Also, please note the irony of the cybermob going after someone (who singled someone out one on one) for being a bullly.

@OrionMD: Thank you. People acting like this is the first they've heard of people being complete a-holes in Hollywood to actors and such. It's not like this crap hasn't been going on since the beginning of the business or anything. Either deal with it or find another career.

Anyone surprised here? With the success that came with his career in making Marvel movies, Whedon felt he was untouchable and the rules did not apply to him so he took advantage of it. It seems he took the path of the bully to assert his authority as director.

@idakooz: Well seems like the studio was the one empowering him to do it. They didn't want to do Snyder's version, they wanted a more "Avengers-like" experience and they used him as the blunt object to do it. That being said, he sounds like an absolute dbag and really ruined that movie in comparison to the original version.

Crazy how Ray Fisher complained about the same person and lost his role for it but her complaints were dealt with straight away. Is it really so hard to just be fair?

@letsgame82: Fisher is a complete nobody while Gadot actually had a hit film under her belt already so she had some clout to back her up. Big difference. Still don't care regardless because it's Hollywood. Grow a thicker skin or find some other line of work. Bunch of babies.

@letsgame82: The way he handled it and the way she handled it are completely different. Ray Fisher has a victim's mentality and thinks everything done to him, including the addition of "Booyah" to his dialogue, was an orchestrated attack because of his race.

@bigshaft: Yeah it's a good rule of thumb that if there's only 1 person complaining in a situation like this, it's probably him lying or making things up. It's all too easy now to just say "someone offended me" and have a whole army of people with pitchforks throwing their shit in the argument.

@PrpleTrtleBuBum: Yeah it's the crazed Twitter mob. I will say this though, if Ray Fisher has any grief about the way he was treated on set, I think it should be discussed appropriately (ie: NOT by b*tching on Twitter) and reserve judgement until we know what really went down. But this whole thing of "everyone is out to get me" spiel makes Fisher look foolish. I'm black and I never once thought him saying "booyah" in the movie was an attack on his race. He posted that sh** on Twitter. He asked why did people feel like he should've said the line while Superman wasn't forced to say "up, up and away" etc. We need to get out of that mindset ASAP. If not, we're always going to see ourselves as victims.

Gal Gadot handled the situation with class and it never got out until this whole debacle with Fisher.

@uninspiredcup: Am I supposed to take that as fact? And beyond that, my comment was a blanket statement, (much as yours was). It wasn't my opinion on Gadot either way.

Regardless of anything having to do with this story directly, actors with money don't have to take 💩 off of anyone, just like no one else should have to, (regardless of their career, or financial status).

@magnificent7: What does "learn to deal with crap" mean exactly? Doing and saying nothing? "Dealing" with something implies that someone is actually doing something. Ignoring or brushing off crap isn't actually dealing with anything.

And people sticking up for themselves =/= crybabies.
