Game noir announced for Revolution

Obscure Polish developer Nibris announces Sin City-esque title set in the 1930s--and presented entirely in black and white.

When the Revolution was announced, Nintendo naysayers preemptively dismissed it as yet another platform oriented toward younger gamers. In the span of two weeks, however, that assumption has been proven wrong twofold. First came Ubisoft's announcement that it is working on Red Steel, an adult-oriented action game set in the modern Japanese underworld.

Today came news of a second Revolution game that is definitely not for kids. Polish developer Nibris has announced that it is developing Sadness, a film noir-inspired game for the next-generation platform.

The studio, who is so obscure it has the words "Yes, we do exist" on its Web site, was stingy with details. It didn't name a publisher, fix a release date, or identify a specific genre. It did, however, crow about how Sadness will be the first game with all black-and-white graphics, citing the recent crime thriller Sin City as an inspiration. It also said the game would be set "pre-World War," giving it the same 1930s setting as many classic crime films.

In a somewhat garbled statement, "Nibris employee" Lukasz "CassSept" Oskard praised the vision of Nintendo, which his company will develop for exclusively. "Nibris decided to follow Nintendo's path, which definately (sic) fights the stagnation which has occurred in video games and creates new trends," he said. "With thise (sic) move, we want to create a unique environment, which is only available in Sadness."

I wonder if Jessica Alba's gonna be in that game... Anyhow, it's nice to see some more new, solid titles for the Revolution.

A black and white game!!! I really prefer the "color" games, however it sounds interesting. I think that developers will start to make some experiments in all the new platforms. It's great news to read about more games for the Revolution!!

can all of u hyper boys calm down i hate when ppl get over confident about a console that has not come out yet. no offense i love nintendo and rev to but to me getting to confident about Rev makes me annoyed.. you don't know the rev might fail horribly and go out of the console buisness. or it will be under rated and be a "kiddy" console as they called it like last time.........................................................your mother

The Rev really is sounding better and better. You know that Nintendo is going to pump out those "Nintendoish' titles for the rev, but seeing some exclusive 3rd party games announced, and some actual interesting ones at that, may prove the rev more competition than originally thought.

I think we are finally going to see some original games coming to the market. I used to be a very avid gamer from before NES up until the last year or so, and recently games are starting to seem like regurgitated versions of everything that has already come out. Sequels, and new games with the names of the main characters changed yet its the same game as another one... I just has to stop sometime, and this may be the system to finally change that. If consoles don't advance in gameplay mechanics, then FPS games will be the same in ten years as they are now. Just HURRY UP and release it already!!

Well orangebrat these polish developers don't know those titles. Hell I have never ever heard of those video games. Any video game review website would also proclaim the Nibris game the first video game in black and white. Also people prior details on how the controller would be used in Sadness has come up before. Also Nibris does have another Revolution title. It's a sequel to their DS title which according to them will be on at E3. Also they are redesigning their website. There are a lot of exclusives coming for the Revolution. Much like the DS it will have the most exclusives. Nibris btw does have Gamecube and DS development kits from what has been said. Just like Red Steel there are potentialy of hundreds of games being planned for the Revolution.

This isn't going to be the first game done entirely in black & white. Others include: A Case of the Crabs, The Goat in the Grey Fedora, Carte Blanche, Noir: A Shadowy Thriller, and my own The Disenfranchised.

"Good. However the 1930s setting doesn't sound too exiting. Most games based on that period of time kinda suck... except maybe for the Godfather... Still. it's good to see Nintendo with some fresh ideas." The Godfather film is in 1950 pos WW2 after Michael Corleone Come from war "sORRY IS IN 1940"

this is a little weird...i hope that this game is released and is good but the website is down and judging by their current note they don't even have a publisher. Nintendo will probably pick it up if they cant find one though, since this is the second game we have gotten any details about. P.S. red steel also sounds awesome.

Another "Mature" type game for the Rev, looks like this time Nintendo might be able to shake the Label of being a "Kiddie" console maker with the Revolution. If that happen's the Revolution may be even more of a "Revolution" then even Nintendo could have hoped for. All I know is it is looking better and better everyday and I am getting one at launch. Viva La Revolution!

This game has been known about for a while, but not the details about it being noir-inspired, the black and white, and the 1930's setting.

Badass. I thought the Rev sounded pretty stupid when it was first announced, but this and Red Steal, plus the low price point and the promise of something different has swayed me. Arigatou nintendo!

There was a feature on this game about how it is in first person and you can use the controller to grab knives, which you can then use to slit throats, and such.

I said it in the Red Steel article and I'll say it here: what is wrong with you ppl? Again, you know ABSOLUTELY nothing about this game at all and yet you're already jumping up and down proclaiming it's brilliance. Hell, this game doesn't even talk about the controller and yet you still think it's amazing bc it's on Rev. And please STOP saying this is Sin City on Rev because it's not. The game's black & white coloring was the only thing inspired from Sin City. Once again, all I'm seeing is posts from rabid fanboys.

I'm happy to see the Rev will launch with some mature titles. Man what a relief, and I was going to make a special pedistal with gothic candle holders and a blood fountain to give my Rev a more mature look.
