Game noir announced for Revolution

Obscure Polish developer Nibris announces Sin City-esque title set in the 1930s--and presented entirely in black and white.

When the Revolution was announced, Nintendo naysayers preemptively dismissed it as yet another platform oriented toward younger gamers. In the span of two weeks, however, that assumption has been proven wrong twofold. First came Ubisoft's announcement that it is working on Red Steel, an adult-oriented action game set in the modern Japanese underworld.

Today came news of a second Revolution game that is definitely not for kids. Polish developer Nibris has announced that it is developing Sadness, a film noir-inspired game for the next-generation platform.

The studio, who is so obscure it has the words "Yes, we do exist" on its Web site, was stingy with details. It didn't name a publisher, fix a release date, or identify a specific genre. It did, however, crow about how Sadness will be the first game with all black-and-white graphics, citing the recent crime thriller Sin City as an inspiration. It also said the game would be set "pre-World War," giving it the same 1930s setting as many classic crime films.

In a somewhat garbled statement, "Nibris employee" Lukasz "CassSept" Oskard praised the vision of Nintendo, which his company will develop for exclusively. "Nibris decided to follow Nintendo's path, which definately (sic) fights the stagnation which has occurred in video games and creates new trends," he said. "With thise (sic) move, we want to create a unique environment, which is only available in Sadness."

I might now want this because its all black and white....i really enjoy colorful games, but not childish games. something like oblivion... really colorful in daytime. Well this mght be totally different because its a Revolution game... every gamecube only game is really good... so i think this will be too

I'm loving the originality coming from these 2 Revolution titles that we just recently learned about. The Revolution will be a great 2nd console to those who can't afford all three. Keep up the good work Nintendo and the 3rd party support will keep coming!

I dont know why everione calles Sin City black and white. Stupid hicks the black and white was only a stile created to bring out other colors(lipstick, yellow bastard s.o.) And there were parts where the film was in full color. OK I can understand This news page calling it b/w put why the hell did metacritic do it. That review should get an 1 out of 10

I didn't really enjoy the Sin City movie either, but still, the game sounds promising. Everyone know's the Rev will be cheaper (and presumably easier) to develop for so I expect many games for this system down the line.

"first game with all black-and-white graphics" While I applaud the notion and look forward to the results, they've obviously never played Dark Castle or anything on an early Macintosh. Or some versions of Wizardry. And if you have time to browse the Interactive Fiction section at Underdogs, you could probably find sumpin' even in the same genre.

Hmmmm, sounds sexy. I'm going to keep track of this game as well as Red Steel. They both sound pretty good.

Looks like Nintendo won't have to worry about its "kiddy" image with the Revolution!

Great news once again for the Revolution. It's this kind of exciting news that's needed in order to attract the interest of gamers presently not interested in Revolution.

Nice. More mature-themed games. And I love the black-and-white 'Sin City- style idea. Hopefully, they'll find a publisher.

Remember how worried everyone was about Metroid Prime since no one had heard of Retro Studios? That little project turned out ok.

hmm i looked at some concept art on this game and read what i could find about it and hopefully it will live up to my expectations of it. it coudl be a really great title. but it is always iffy on small developing houses. not to say big developing houses always put out good games. but they hav emor emeny to back up their ideas.

Interesting. I imagine Nibris will be one of the first of many new developers that will pop to make games for the Revolution. This is encouraging...

Ok, Sin City-style graphics...now will they be able to actually make use of the word noir and pen a story that suits that word. Noir is a word so easily used yet no one really knows what its really about. If this developer can do so then I may just get me a Revolution.

Good. However the 1930s setting doesn't sound too exiting. Most games based on that period of time kinda suck... except maybe for the Godfather... Still. it's good to see Nintendo with some fresh ideas.
