Game of Thrones Season 6 Finale Sets Ratings Record, Here's How Many People Watched
HBO's fantasy show is rare in that viewership has risen with every new season.
The numbers are in, and Sunday's Game of Thrones Season 6 finale was a huge hit in terms of ratings. The episode, "The Winds of Winter," drew 8.9 million viewers, HBO announced today. That represents a new all-time record, beating Season 5's finale (8.1 million viewers).
These figures, obtained by Entertainment Weekly, pertain to the show's 9 PM debut hour only.

When factoring in all major viewing sources (streaming, DVR, repeats), Game of Thrones Season 6 averaged 23 million viewers per episode, up 15 percent compared to Season 5. As EW points out, Game of Thrones is something of a rarity, in that its viewership has grown every season.
