Game Pass Title South Of Midnight Gets Release Date And More Info

We Happy Few developer Compulsion Games is releasing its next game, South of Midnight, on April 8, the studio announced during the Xbox Developer Direct video broadcast. It will be available at launch on Game Pass for Xbox and PC, but only for the Ultimate tier.

The more expensive Premium edition unlocks five days early, beginning April 3, 2025. Game Pass Ultimate members can buy an upgrade token for the early-access period and other benefits.

South of Midnight is a third-person action-adventure game set in the American Deep South. The game follows the character Hazel, who, along with her mother, are preparing for a huge hurricane.

Here is the plot synopsis:

"The storm proves massive, causing catastrophic flooding-and causing their own home to be swept down river with her mother in it. Its aftermath shows the fictional town of Prospero, located in the southern United States, eerily calm while irrevocably changed from the hurricane’s destruction. Here, Hazel undertakes a journey in search of her mother, while finding out more about herself and her family’s lineage in the process."

Players will come across the massive talking creature, Catfish, who becomes stuck in a tree after the hurricane. The Catfish tells Hazel that she is a magical being known as a Weaver. Hazel has special powers, including the ability to "conjure" past versions of objects to use them to solve puzzles. Players will also meet the character Two-Toed Tom, who is a blind albino alligator the size of an island.

"Push, Pull, and Weave are some of the spells at your disposal that give you a tactical advantage during a fight. Timing is everything. Pull distant enemies close to start melee combos, push them back to interrupt and stun their attack, then press the advantage with follow-up strikes," game director Jasmin Roy said.

South of Midnight also features the mystical character Huggin' Molly, who is a "monstrous woman-spider."

Finally, Compulsion Games said South of Midnight will take most players 10-12 hours to complete, though as always, your mileage may vary. Some of the other announcements from the Developer Direct included Doom: The Dark Ages getting a May 15 release date and Ninja Gaiden 4 coming in Fall 2025.
