Gamestock 2001: New MechCommander 2 screens
Microsoft shows off the latest build of this highly anticipated sequel.
One of the games on display at this year's Gamestock is the latest build of MechCommander 2, a real-time strategy game set within the BattleTech universe. Unlike the previous MechCommander game, MechCommander places a stronger emphasis on pure strategy in its campaign mode rather than puzzle solving. The fog of war feature has also been removed so you must rely on the sensors of your scout mech's and their ability to detect enemy units. In addition, line of sight is also an important element in the game since some units have a greater line of sight, and therefore, a much better chance to hit an enemy unit. Placing units on top of hills or other high topographical features increases an individual unit's line of sight, which makes seizing the high ground an integral part of any strategy. Significant enhancements have also been made to the graphics to provide a much more realistic experience.
MechCommander 2 is due out this summer, but for more on the game, check out our previous coverage.
