"Starting now, through this weekend and until further notice, Sony has allowed us to take unlimited preorders beyond your current allotments," reads a line from the memo.

"In other words, the floodgates are open for PS4 system reserves, we will let you know when to stop preordering based on limited quantities."

Earlier this week, Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton said GameStop plans to buy "every single unit" that Sony can manufacture and that PS4 demand may exceed supply.

Last week, PlayStation executive Andrew House confirmed that Sony was boosting sales projections for the PS4 after a favorable showing at E3.

The PS4 will launch this holiday for $400, a full $100 below Microsoft's Xbox One.
