Retailer GameStop will carry the new Google Nexus 7 tablet, the company has announced.

No Caption Provided

Beginning July 30, consumers can buy the $230 16GB model and $270 32GB version at all United States stores.

Consumers looking to buy online won't have to wait, as the tablet is available today ahead of schedule through the retailer's website.

“We are happy to partner with Google to carry the next installment of their Nexus 7 tablet,” GameStop mobile vice president Joe Gorman said in a statement.

The new Google Nexus 7 features Android Jelly Bean 4.3, a front- and rear-facing camera, and a 7" screen. GameStop also announced that, for a limited time, customers can receive 30 percent extra in-store credit on any items traded towards the purchase of the new Nexus 7.

I know the Android fans are giddy about this machines specs and super-low price, but at the end of the day, I can't figure what folks will do with this tablet that they couldn't do with the previous one.

No HDMI. Main reason why i skipped out on a Nexus 7. Why wouldnt you want a HDMI out on a 7 tablet? You plan on watching movies on a small screen?

Plus Android and iPad tablets really dont bring anything new to the table that their phones already do.

Honestly i love Win8 tablets. Apps+ programs = win. Running a full OS on a portable device is amazing as opposed to depending on apps that only do about 1/10 their program counter parts can do.

@grove12345 What's amusing to me is that people criticize things about the Surface / Windows 8 tablets (windowing, USB, split-screen, printing, etc) that other tablets cannot do sometimes even with third-party apps.

The iPad is a great entertainment device, but for getting work done, the Surface tablets are where it's at.

Nice, I planned on getting the original Nexus 7, but decided not to. Maybe this will be the device that brings me into the tablet world.

@riclyrex You have no clue. Do some research and you will see they are losing ground. Apple was big only because of the name. People now are seeing that there are better things out there.

@GheTToDaN15 @riclyrex

Apples popularity is a fine example of idiotic consumers.

They have no idea what they are buying but just know its an expensive brand and its popular.

I dont think Apple is a bad company. Honestly if you are old and dont know anything about technology. or want to keep it simple. Get apple. If you want to do stuff with your phone/pad get android.

Android has become more popular over time thanks to samsung. Yet again consumers see a nice popular expensive product and they must buy it. They say they have a samsung phone as opposed to an android.Though samsung does do some cool stuff with their products.

Again i think if people want an apple phone/pad, thats fine. Just dont brag about. You have nothing to brag about.

But then again android/ipad tablets are pretty redundant and dont really do anything much better than their phone counter parts.

I think Win8 trumps all other tablets. Soooooooo much more you can do. Maybe 1,000x more realistically.

I have a 64GB IPad 2 that I only paid about $300 for it. So I'm good. My wife has a 32GB Kindle HD that has all the Android apps/games we'll ever need.

@matthova Really? You are still on IOS? I"d research the future and the value behind Open Source ecosystems. There is so much more value in AOSP, especially for gamers.

Since I probably won't have a home console, that means I will be stuck with my PC, PSP and Nexus 7. Here is the problem: the PC I have can barely get 10 frames per second on low settings with Pro Evolution Soccer 2013, and the one that I can use to play games like TF2 is used by my mom for work most of the time. The PSP is good but the graphics, screen and lack of a second analogue stick makes it less attractive to me now. And the Nexus 7 has lots of great games but being solely a mobile gamer is kind of discrediting.

So, should I save up money for a used PS Vita? That is the question.

@hrst1 I would say save up for a new pc, I have a Vita and love it but buying it now is almost a waste of money. The library is tiny, it will go down in price, and have some games in a year or so.

A PC is simply too expensive for me, the one I have in mind is the Alienware 14, which starts at $1200. The Vita, even with the memory cards and games, and PS Plus, maybe even repairs (I beg for this not to be needed) is still cheaper than this laptop, the Alienware 14, even though I pirate all of my PC games. I am a kid and I don't earn money.

No SD card means no interest whatsoever from me. I like how it's hilariously obvious it's to price gouge on storage capacity too. $40 more for 16GB more. How about whenever I get a new tablet, I just get one with an SD card slot that I can expand on my own, probably by 64GB more by the time I get a new tablet, and easily 32GB more even right now for much less than $40 more?

I love how Google tries to play it off as "customers are dumb so that's why we don't allow SD card storage." Yeah, I don't buy that when simply saving to the internal memory by default fixes that. It's all about the price gouging. Non-removable batteries were bad enough, but this is a trend that deserves to die. I'm not particularly interested in Windows tablets right now, but I love the advertisement that mocks the lack of SD cards on Apple's products.

The set in stone storage spaces are nothing more than a way to try and convince unknowing customers that it's some sort logical step to pay a ton more for slightly more storage. Hopefully that kind of price gouging goes the way of the widespread HDMI cable price scam that seems to be dying off.

@Voxwik I don't think Google never said that. There are many reasons why companies will opt out of SD card slots.

1) Internal memory issues with various software updates, this includes software enhancements from custom ROMS.

2) Faster write speeds

3) Cost and future costs for parts and labor when re-manufactured

An extra 16g of storage is a big deal to some people, and they will pay the extra money. In reality, that extra storage might cost 5-10 dollars. But lets also remember that Google is a business. Now, their main objective is not to make a ton of money from this tablet. These tablets are just a means to Play Store purchases and advertisements. Still, the extra money made from the extra storage selection is valid. Supply and demand.

If you don't like it, don't buy it.

@KJFear @Voxwik honestly just stay away from mainstream tablets or products.

tons of of 7 inch tablets out there have SD slot and HDMI out.

Actually find it more of an issue about no HDMI slot. I want to watch my movie on a TV screen not a tablet.

It's hard to beat this offering. Stock Android is well worth it. Fortunately I have no need for a tablet, so I'll stick with my Galaxy Nexus for a while longer.

Fact: The Nexus 7 will feature a front-end bus of 92gigram/s and a clockmeter of 13 ohms powered by a beefy Pentium Skifshot 32 NGS tri-cord processor factory lumped to 333.1 quads.

Just a head up, I ordered mine online earlier this evening, but instead of shipping to my apartment, I decided to do an in-store pickup.

I was surprised when I got an email less than 10 minutes later saying my Nexus 7 was ready to be picked up. Called the nearest Gamestop and sure enough, they had some in stock and were selling them already. Unfortunately, this all happened 5 minutes before closing, but I'll be in there tomorrow morning to snatch mine up.

I'd call before ordering online and having it shipped at this point. They don't ship on weekends, so more than likely it won't go out until Monday, then it's a 3-5 day transit time following that (free standard shipping). Do an in-store pickup if you can, and call your local retailer to see if they have any in-stock.

@soulless4now Technically Gamestop online sells ASUS and MacBook laptops. They might not do it in store purely out of the fact that most of their employees are about as smart as a leaf caught on a car tire. Employees there would cost them money by taking in laptops wrong...
