GameStop Will Sell PC Hardware Like RTX 3000 GPUs And Laptops

PC gamers can soon hit GameStop for their hardware needs, including GPUs like RTX's 3000 series.

Retail store GameStop is expanding its product catalog to include PC gaming hardware such as GeForce's RTX 3000 series graphics cards and laptops.

GameStop CEO George Sherman said in a Tuesday earnings call (reported on by PCMag) that the company is growing its inventory to address consumers' needs. "This includes growing our product offerings across PC gaming, computers, monitors, game tables, mobile gaming, and gaming TVs to name only a few,” Sherman said.

The company also put out a new ad highlighting various hardware going on sale, including GeForce RTX 3090 GPUs, mini tower cases, and motherboards. Many of the products already appear in the search results on GameStop's website, but some only ship to the US, others aren't available, and a few won't arrive until April 16. Video cards, including Nvidia's RTX 30 series, have been notoriously difficult to find in stock due to the ongoing semiconductor shortage. That's likely to also be the case at GameStop.

GameStop also launched a dedicated PC gaming page, which will sell desktops, laptops, virtual reality headsets, and accessories like lights and speakers. The company hasn't specified whether these sales will take place online or in-store, though Sherman said that GameStop will invest more in its e-commerce.

"Global e-commerce sales increased 175% and represented 34% of total sales in the fourth quarter versus 12% of net sales in the prior year period," Sherman said.

GameStop made headlines when chief customer officer Frank Hamlin announced that he was resigning amid the company's share price rollercoaster. The company also expects its board members, including former Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime, to retire as part of the 2021 Annual Meeting later this year.

The markups will be tremendous and you'll still have to walk into a Gamestop and deal with the customer service or go to their online shop and possibly have your credit card information stolen. Might as well go other places like Microcenter or Newegg. Plus I saw this same subject talked about on another site and the article was stating Gamestop is getting into selling GPUs but have none to sell yet,

So many GPUs are being pumped into the market I just lost interest and track of post 1080ti cards. Are those relics of the past, worthless and obsolete ? What is this new stuff?

It's unlikely but I wonder if they'll be buying and selling used GPUs 🤔

EEEERRRRRRR MMAAAAAHHHHHH GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERDDD!!!

Celebration time for gamers!

Wooohooo another site selling 30 series cards with no anti-bot measures, just to have all the stock be regurgitated on eBay for 2 or 3 times the msrp.

Thanks Gamestop for saving us all (yup, no one saw this one coming).

@zerojuice: Hey wanna learn how to make a bot to buy those? I haven't made one myself but since it pretty much involves what I do for a living I could, but won't, for scalping consoles and graphics cards, out of principle.

1: learn Python: https://www.w3schools.com/python/

2: learn python http requests: https://requests.readthedocs.io/en/master/user/quickstart/

3: learn selenium: https://www.browserstack.com/guide/python-selenium-to-run-web-automation-test

And you're pretty much good to go. Should take about 3 weeks or less to learn that. You don't need to learn all of it, just the parts that matter, which become clear when you read the documentation.

And if you learn this you're pretty much golden:

4. AWS EC2: https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/getting-started/

With AWS you can have cloud servers doing all the processing for you and even spin millions of copies running in parallel to bot the shit out of whatever site you want. Just watch the bill though (you can set alerts and limits for those).

@sebb: While I totally appreciate the educational offer, I had no trouble getting my hands on a PS5. And I am currently writing this comment on my new Alienware m17 R4 laptop with a RTX 3080 in it. So I'm all good. I was just pointing out what is likely to happen.

@zerojuice: ...sounds like an unfortunate and incredible waste of such a powerful graphics card. Can personally tell you that using this same card on a ROG Swift 35" monitor it won't even look like the same game

and Dell....?

@sneakywolfny: I can personally tell you that I have taken my laptop over to my brother's house and set it next to his desktop (which is powered by a 3090) and the graphical fidelity is exactly the same.

Also... ew, ROG Swift? Hot garbage 3rd rate monitor with a shit show color range. Time to step your game up to an LG UltraGear 4K 144hz or a Dell S3220DGF (yeah, Dell even runs the gamut for gaming monitors).

@zerojuice: Nice! I can't wait to get an rtx 3070, and upgrade the rest of my pc. Been watching some videos on youtube of what next-gen hardware can do. Pretty impressive. In the meantime, I'll keep enjoying my gtx 1070 and count myself lucky I even have a pc that can run games lol.

@phili878: Dell? No. Alienware? Yes. Dell may own Alienware, but their laptops are still the premiere gaming laptops on the market. Sure, you pay a little for the name, but as it stands there isn't a better gaming laptop than what I have.

@zerojuice: no way, Alienware cost more because of design and name. Asus and MSI make the exact same specs for a better price. Alienware used to be the best until Dell bought it.

They’re about to make a killing if they sell any of the new graphics cards. Even if they sell it for some crazy price, some scalper will probably buy it regardless.

@willow69: I have to agree unless they will sell those 30 series at the true price that was set up for and not at the scalpers rate and some kind of way to limit multiple sales to one buyer or automated buyer. However, I do not seeing that happening being it is an pipe dream.

I bet they will have some bang up pricing to go along with these cards too just like they do their used games. After 10 years on the shelf, they will discount it by half.

@lonewolf1044: and then if you try to buy it back, it’s more expensive than what you paid for it when it was new lol. Better to scavenge something in most RPGs than it is to buy it because of those greedy merchants lol.

@wahsobe: When my parents used take us to the mall, I would just walk around there and the arcade for an hour or two. I can remember buying G.I. Joe (by Epyx), Karateka, and Print Shop.

@theduckofdeath: Pretty much. I remember the first time I walked in there and thinking, "there's a PC gaming store in the mall?" Wow that's an awesome looking video card. Not so much the cards at that point but the fancy boxes on the expensive cards made them seem so cool.

I started to frequent it not long after that and once they went full gaming I practically lived there.

Canada Computers is the first retailer I've seen selling 3000 series cards at quasi-reasonable prices. I'm seeing 3060s at $500. They're enforcing a one unit per customer limit.

Ah, GameStop. They still don't get it. They never will. Let's dedicate even less shelf space to games. Because that's what a customer at a game store wants. Less games.

@WarGreymon77: No, I see it as an good move as less games are being sold physically other console games. Hardware does relate to gaming but you have to do it right if one wants to turn an profit. Gamestop has no control on the games part though.

@WarGreymon77: Actually, this is a pretty smart move. Hard to be a game REseller when everyone is moving to digital sales platforms. So what do you sell as a games merchant? Hardware.

@Barighm: yea the only option would be to focus on retro games. if they had everything from odyssey to nes to x360 then id be visiting them quite often. online markets are cool but you never can quite tell if the boxes and discs are good quality and the prices range from ridiculously cheap to ridiculously expensive

even with the x1 ps4 gen physical sales were pointless because every game requires some kind of day patch or alike. i dont even want to buy those physical because its like saving or collecting takeaway food trashes or something. no manuals, not plug n play, nothing.

hardware is a sensible alternative as im sure a company like gamestop cant really dedicate to finding retro stuff either and they would just make the scalping effect worse (oh theres someone selling his old super mario world for 5 bucks, its worth so lets buy it immediately and put it on our shelf for 30 bucks)

@tsunami2311: True it happened to Apple as the selection got smaller and smaller and there was an bigger selection of PC software back in the 80's and 90's and with the evolution of the internet the same thing happened to the PC side but it did not suffer the same fate Apple did as Developer took advantage of the evolving internet and started to do their stuff digitally. They cut down on some overhead but one thing in most Devs cases the cost was not passed down and the prices was still the same. Wow some view Gamestop as cutthroats they have to change their way of doing business as hardware does relate to gaming.

With the track record gamestop has... You'd be better off waiting.

DON'T EVER BUY FROM GAMESTOP (Especially PC hardware)

they would probably open it, and try to say it was to make sure everything was inside.

Microcenter stores are not available in a lot of cities and regions in the US so if Gamestop started offering PC hardware and accessories from their stores and websites, that will be a big deal for them and for PC gamers in the US.
