Gaming-focused Child's Play charity raises $20 million in 10 years

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the gaming-focused Child's Play charity, organizers have announced that more than $20 million has been raised since the drive began in 2003. This includes more than $520,000 raised through the recently concluded 7th Annual Desert Bus for Hope.

"Ten years ago today, gamers worldwide were called upon to brighten the holidays for sick kids at Seattle Children’s Hospital. The response then was phenomenal, and since that point gamers worldwide have shown their generosity year after year," the group said.

So far in 2013, Child's Play has raised $2.5 million, short of its $3 million goal and below the $5 million raised in 2012. Numerous additional fundraising events are planned for the remainder of 2013.

The Child's Play charity, founded by Penny Arcade creators Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, now supports a network of more than 90 hospitals worldwide. The charity works to improve the lives of sick children through offering toys and games.

In addition to the hospital network, funds donated to Child's Play now go to providing domestic violence facilities with game carts to help children and families through their experiences. More information about Child's Play is available at the charity's official website.
