Garry Kasparov says chess will outlast League of Legends
Former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov speaks candidly about esports.

Tough for chess to overtake League of Legends, the most popular game here, but I don't think they'll play that in 100 years. Chess, yes!

While some might cry bias at the notion of Garry Kasparov, a man many believe to be the greatest chess player of recent decades, stating that chess will outlive League of Legends, there's no denying that chess, which has been around for about 1500 years, has been excellent at the game of longevity. Over on Twitter today, Kasparov opened with a casual remark on how multiplayer computer game competitions have captured the imagination of Korea -- but only for the time being. He went on to remark that chess will sustain interests long after League of Legends disappears, noting how "people get bored with a computer game as soon as a new one comes out with slightly better graphics."
In spite of his seemingly critical view of esports, Kasparov also remarked:
I am in no way dismissive of e-sports or videogames. Many offer rich environments & strategic decision-making, not just cool pictures.

Before adding that chess's timeless appeal is partially attributable to the fact that there are "no storylines to tire of, no expansions pack to buy." The rest of the Twitter discussion can be found here.
