Gears Of War Designer Pleads To Keep Chris Pratt Away From The Netflix Movie
"Keep Chris Pratt away from the Gears franchise, please, FFS."
Netflix is making a Gears of War movie, and if the game's original designer had any say in the casting--which he does not--he would not choose Chris Pratt. Cliff Bleszinski, who designed the Gears of War series at Epic Games before departing the studio in 2012, lobbied to "keep Pratt away" from the series.
In a tweet, Bleszinski reacted to the Gears of War x Netflix news, saying, "Oh and keep Chris Pratt away from the Gears franchise, please, FFS." He didn't offer up any rationale as to why he wouldn't want Pratt to appear in the Gears of War movie or any other extension of the universe.
Bleszinski did, however, agree with the joke that it would be funny for Pratt to play all members of the Carmine family. This being the internet, someone very quickly created mock-up images of Pratt as Gears of War characters--check out the images below.

As for who Bleszinski believes should be in the Gears of War film, he said Ryan Reynolds would "make a perfect Baird." Bleszinski is not involved in the Gears of War Netflix movie, so he's only offering up his thoughts and opinions and doesn't hold any decision-making power.

Dave Bautista, who has petitioned to play Gears of War lead Marcus Fenix for years while the Gears of War film was in various stages of development, put out another video recently in which he lobbied to star in the Gears of War movie. "I can't make this any easier," he said. For what it's worth, Bleszinski replied to the video and said Bautista is his first choice to play Fenix.
Bleszinski also said he believes Karl Urban (The Boys, The Lord of the Rings) could be a prime candidate to play Fenix.

I could also see Karl Urban as Marcus, folks.

Fuckin' diabolical.
In addition to the live-action Gears of War movie, Netflix is producing a Gears of War anime. As for the game series, 2019's Gears 5 is the latest entry in the series and no new games have been announced.
Developer The Coalition has multiple new games in development, and while they remain a secret, it's a safe bet that at least one of them is a Gears of War title.
