Gears of War Director Teases Possible Upcoming Movie
Rod Fergusson hints that a Gears of War film is possibly in the works.
At San Diego Comic-Con today, Gears of War director Rod Fergusson and other members of developer The Coalition discussed more about the upcoming Gears of War 4 during their panel. Fergusson also fielded a question about a possible Gears of War movie, and he hinted that there might be something to announce about that soon.
In response to a question about a potential film based on the series, Fergusson replied, "There is some stuff going on that I can't talk about today, but I'll possibly be talking about [that stuff] very soon. I'm very excited about what the future holds."
Although not a direct confirmation of a film, Fergusson's answer seems to suggest that The Coalition and publisher Microsoft are looking into other media for Gears of War projects.
This isn't the first time that the idea for a Gears of War movie has been kicked around. Way back in 2007, New Line Cinema purchased the rights to make a movie based on the game, and the project got a writer and producers. However, the film ran into development troubles and has been in limbo ever since. In late 2012, reports suggested that it had been revived, but there hasn't been much news since then.
Gears of War 4 launches on October 7 for Xbox One and Windows 10. Today, The Coalition discussed what has changed since the game's beta ended, which you can read about here. The game is a Play Anywhere title, meaning that a digital purchase on Xbox One will get you the Windows 10 version and vice versa.
