Gears of War, Killer Instinct PC Releases "Won't Be Too Far Into 2016"

Two Xbox One games are on the way to Windows 10 fairly soon.

Update: Microsoft has actually confirmed that Killer Instinct will be released for PC in March, which is when Season Three will be available on both computer and Xbox One. However, there's still no official date for Gears of War.

Original Story: While there still aren't any precise dates to be had, the PC versions of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Killer Instinct may be releasing relatively soon.

No Caption Provided

Asked on Twitter about when the two games will make it out for computers, head of Xbox Phil Spencer responded, "Haven't announced dates yet but won't be too far into 2016."

Both games were confirmed for Windows 10 releases at E3 this past June, though neither were given release dates. Killer Instinct supports cross-platform play with the Xbox One version, and content purchased on the console will carry over to PC.

While Microsoft has over the years repeatedly expressed its commitment to PC gaming, it's failed to bring most of its first-party Xbox games to PC. While there's still no word on a new Halo (outside of Halo Online in Russia) or Forza--or Gears of War 4, for that matter--coming to the platform, this is a positive sign.

Microsoft recently expanded support for its Xbox Wireless Adapter to Windows 7 and 8.1. Previously, the adapter--which allows for Xbox One controllers to be used wirelessly with a PC--required users to be on Windows 10.

@Defender1978: I don't see why M$ wouldn't lean towards multi platform. The money isn't in consoles...its in games. The only thing is the two go hand in hand due to the price of PC's. My guess is the next Gen of "consoles" won't exist. Steam machines will eventually set a standard and the two top dogs will have to give in. By the looks of it M$ are already preparing with the windows 10 features. Not to mention the games they are talking about bringing to PC definitely don't sell a significant amount of consoles (Gears ultimate. Killer Instinct. Master Chief Collection) so why not bring them to PC. There are pc games that are made by 10 man teams and never actually leave alpha phase that make more money than some big titles on console. From a business standpoint there's not reason to stay in that market much longer.

@Defender1978: Not games developed by Sony's studios. Sure, JRPGs that used to be only on PS consoles are coming to PC but apart from that nothing else would really make the transition.

@luucifer78b: It's even more mundane than that, the only way MS will allow cross play between X1 and PC is via the Xbox app and the Xbox app is only available on Windows 10

This is awesome, I hope they bring all Xbox games to Win 10.....most people who are into PC gaming aren't going to bother with a console anyway, and this way MS gets a sale as well, win/win. Even if they release games 6-12months after console I would be happy. I like both Xbox + PC , they compliment each other really well.

If is released for windows too, technically it is being released for a Microsoft platform as well. So i can't see how exactly that will messed up sales for Xbox one or 360. They just being lazy and since the money makers are Xbox one and 360 and they not losing much with PC, they don't even bother doing it for PC as well. That's why most of those first party games almost never make it to PC platform. Microsoft just been lazy

Watch Microsoft shoot themselves in the foot by making them exclusive to GFWL.

I want to be excited for Killer Instinct on PC but Iron Galaxy Studios is involved, the very same company that brought Batman AK to PC

Batman on pc was more than just this mobs fault, Warner and Rocksteady need to come clean.

@turtlesintime: I think there's more factors to the shoddy Batman AK PC port than just the developer. Warner Bros may have rushed them, it doesn't mean Microsoft will on Killer Instinct.

If it ain't on steam. Then I am not buying it, also I hate how they've made it Windows 10 only. MS needs to realise that not everyone wants to upgrade to Windows 10 and in fact some people can't.

@illage2: "If it ain't on steam" - I see this crap spouted way too much. The whole point of a PC is that its a free and open platform for people to do what they want. If you want someone to hold your hands, get a console

@illage2: to be fair most people who don't want to upgrade to win10 are irrational, win10 is a perfectly stable os with almost 0 issues and it's absolutely free, I guess it's simply the fear they had from Vista and to some extent win8, honestly there is no reason for not upgrading to win10, and secondly anybody with win7 or above can upgrade to win10, anything below win7 wouldn't work but if you are using older os then how are you even playing games? Most new games can't run on Vista let alone XP.

@Dark_sageX:

Incorrect. If you have an enthusiast PC build running technology such as 3dvision. (it's criminal most of the gaming world still don't know this is the real next gen gaming tech.) or surround, Hell why not both. Windows 10 has a bunch of problems including these, which ensure I will not be upgrading to 10 any time soon. At this point it's almost certain these issues will never be fixed. Features of which being the main factors of late that after 30+ years I am still a gaming nut.

Hardly irrational.

Also the windows store version of Tomb Raider locks you of of certain locations preventing mods from happening. Mods that for example fix the support of technologies I just mentioned. i.e one of the primary reasons to own a gaming PC.

This OS is never coming near my system as long as these things are a factor. Windows 7 is still the best OS this company has ever made, and there lack of support is a purely marketing one.

Looks like I miss out on these two titles. I am sure I will get over it while I go play SF5 in a couple of weeks and witcher 3 again in glorious surround 3D.

@illage2: Well... most every PC that can play recent games and runs Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 should run fine under 10... and Win 10 upgrade is free.

Besides... nothing new. If memory serves, Halo 2 on PC was running only on Vista... at least on release. In that case, you had to buy game - and Vista OS, and also many XP machines were struggling with Vista. This time around, W10 upgrade is free, and with much less chance of problems for upgrades. It's not too bad, overall.

This has to be the worst business strategy I have ever heard. Xbox is already so far behind and they've decided to start putting their exclusives on PC. What's the point of buying an Xbox if you can just play all of its exclusives elsewhere?

@steelthunder434: They put a fighter that will probably be released on PC to help compete with Street Fighter V (which will obviously be the clear winner, but still) and a game that has already been released to the PC (Gears of War). Is there really a major issue here?

@LPDisturbedHU: There is a major issue here. These aren't the only Xbox games they're putting on PC, they're only the first. Over time this will drastically hurt the Xbox brand as there will no longer be any reason to own one.

If they bring out entire franchises to PC, my eyebrows would be raised. To just bring part of one is not even interesting. Its like a publisher selling a few pages of a whole book.

If ALL Gears & Halo games are released on PC, then my wallet will open. Until then, my interests will be elsewhere.
