Get A Starfield Steelbook Case And Shattered Space Expansion For $10

Starfield's Premium Edition Upgrade comes with the Shattered Space story expansion, multiple physical collectibles, and a few digital bonuses.

Starfield players can get the Shattered Space expansion for super cheap thanks to Best Buy's deal on the Premium Edition Upgrade. Normally $35, the Premium Edition Upgrade is discounted to only $10. This deal is likely to sell out fast.

In addition to the Shattered Space expansion, the Premium Edition Upgrade comes with a pair of collectibles: a steelbook display case and a Constellation Patch. The voucher in the box will unlock the expansion, a skin pack, and the digital art book and soundtrack.

Shattered Space costs $30 on its own, so even if you don't care about collectibles, getting the expansion for $10 is quite the deal. Starfield is on Xbox Game Pass, but subscribers only have access to the base game.

This is, unsurprisingly, the lowest price we've seen for the Premium Upgrade, and it's not likely to stick around for long. If you're interested, be sure to check it out as soon as you can.

Best Buy has deals on several Bethesda games right now, including Deathloop on P55 for only $18 (was $60) and Doom Eternal on Xbox for $20 (was $40).

There are so many lies in this advertisement, or I guess it's supposed to be an article? Well whatever, that's a terrible special edition. Oblivion, in comparison, came with a digipak case, a gorgeous metal Septim coin, a little lore book, and a freakin behind the scenes DVD.

They just don't make em like they used to.

$18 is still $17 too much.

Never understood the appeal of digital soundtracks. Might as well listen to the soundtrack on YouTube or Spotify. Is putting the music on a CD really that expensive?

It's a cheap way to give the illusion that a CE is providing more value than it actually does.

I've never gotten a steelbook edition of anything. I assume there's an actual physical disc and not just a slip of paper with a download code. Man, how funny and/or infuriating would that be?

So initial excitement and initial anger aside, who got into Starfield? Honest question by the way, not a cue for a bunch of Bethesda hate. I'm not a fan but I think everything that needed to be said has been said. I gave it a go and decided it wasn't my thing but plenty of people enjoyed it. Anyone go deep into it?

@ives74: Starfield has by far and away the worst random generation system in the history of gaming. Frankly, I don't think that has been said enough.

@ives74: Here is my journey with SF.

Me and an old buddy who have played CRPG games for decades were all ready at launch.

My rig a AMD build with a 4k 60fps goal. My buddy with a 3080 Nvidia build same goal. Now these are clean pcs (just meant for gaming, clean installs, updates to drivers, etc) We waited a few weeks before starting this game, both of us were busy with house renovations and work. So I think the game got one small patch. Anyways....

It ran fine on my AMD build, it ran terrible on his Nvidia build. Which there was plenty of press coverage about this to. But it did not matter, I think by 30 hrs in I was bored with the story, the UI, the world, the combat as well. Some parts were very compelling, and other parts were off putting. By buddy gave up also about the same time and for mostly the same reasons. But he was having a noticeably, worse time on Starfield with his Nvidia build. ....Starfield is a ‘bizarrely worse experience’ on Nvidia and Intel, says Digital Foundry.... I also decided to not renew by PC gamepass, until a decent game comes along. I played maybe one other PC gamepass, game that entire year of 2023.

I feel, that if SF world was more like that of Firefly. A solar system of goldilocks planets and moons that could sustain life (several dozen), and the farther from that goldilocks zone, the harder the worlds got, and the more interesting the characters and worlds became. (But still yet an overall theme, and unifying connection) The space exploration was its best quality but also its worst implementation of it. With many copy pasted areas, buildings, and NPCs. UI problems like eating, menus, etc made the game harder to navigate then it should be.

Honestly, I have been waiting for that 'itch', if you know what I mean, to jump back into SF after it has had some meaningful updates. So far ... that has not come. This game was a 6.5/10 for me, but some parts were beautiful to behold, a patchwork of varying quality. It did not help that you had games that were clearly tens like Baldur's Gate, and Sea of Stars on PS5, that just ran circles around SF in terms of fun and quality.- that came out around the same time.

If SF does not have a meaningful patch to its story, and world by this summer... It may just be forgotten to time like a NBA 2k 2006 game. Big when it came out, bargain bin after a couple of months, and completely forgotten to time.

@jenovaschilld: You really think Sea of Stars was that great?

I don't think Starfield is in any danger of being forgotten to time; people can't shut up about it.

@theduckofdeath: For what it is, for what they were trying to accomplish, and the deftness, skill, and enjoyment in game play for the consumer.... they hit it out of the park.

Sea of Stars may not have had the budget, staff, or scope of (the game that shall not be mentioned) but what they did do, was hit it out of the park on every measure. The reviews around the world, hold this game up as one of the best last year.

hmm, I think I will play this again on PC.

--------

Really though about Starfield. I think the reason SF is constantly mentioned, is because of how much hype was brought up about this game before it launched. Both by the developer, press and fanbase. Just like any cautionary tale humans retell over and over again. Getting lost in the woods, getting scammed in a investment, going to a vacation spot only to learn it is ... Cleveland, OH. People will recant these tells over and over again as a warning, and to self soothe their disappointment. It is a natural and common self coping mechanism.

Like Duke Nukem forever, certain Final Fantasy games, and WoW expansions... when expectation is so HIGH, an air ball is all that people will talk about for years. I also feel a lot of this is the state of Bethesda today. They pedestal we gamers placed that studio on, when instead we just ignored all the signs.

----

So be patient, people will talk about how bad SF turned out because they need to, have a right to, and because they should.

@jenovaschilld: I played Sea of Stars based on the praise it was getting and ended up putting 65 hours into it. The game was far longer and more involved than I imagined. It felt like a parody of RPGs and perhaps games in general.

I liked the game despite not seeing what appears to have captivated so many people. The throwback to a SNES/Genesis-type art style was familiar. The combat was easy & simplistic even on the higher difficulty and you could really only die/lose if you wear screwing around (save for the arena).

The factors you mentioned are some that make me feel reviewers gave the game "extra credit." A fun, well put together game with some wild twist down the stretch. The Wheels game was enjoyable; I beat everyone. Nothing here really clicked and grabbed me like Limbo, Inside, or Tunic (to mention some other smaller games). I understand SoS being in the running for "Indie" of the Year. A 10/10 or GoTY was a tougher sell for 2023.

As for Starfield, I am eleven days of playtime in so far while being early on in the main quest (just got a 4th power). I like the game and the hours melt away while playing. Obviously, there are reasonable things I think could be improved and other things that are dream additions/changes.

@jenovaschilld: I know what you mean about the that itch. I put 25 hours into it, thank you game pass, and just put the controller down. I wasn't angry or upset. I was just like "yeah, ok". There's a story there and there's gameplay but it's all buried under dialog trees and loading screens. I really did want to like it but it's all promises of ice cream and cookies but what you get is low fat frozen yogurt and triscuits.

Performance wise I was baffled. My PC is from early 2019, 9th gen I7 with 16G DDR4 and a 2080 super. Good 1080 rig but I wanted to see this look really good in 4K so I opted to install in the series X. Holy crap. The "most powerful console in the world" about blew itself out trying to get 30 fps. Ultimately I saw what the game was and uninstalled. I'll admit I've never been a bethesda fan but hearing so much about this and the promises that were made I wanted to see for myself. I was underwhelmed. However I could see this being a lot of fun with a buddy.

Hey thanks for the reply.
