I'll defend the Dead Space trilogy (including the third entry, warts and all) to my dying breath. Developed by Visceral Games, the Dead Space trilogy pushed the envelope when it came to horror games--providing an over-the-shoulder, more action-focused variation to the survival horror genre that encouraged you to quickly take careful aim and shoot enemies in specific places. All three games are incredibly immersive, utilizing a minimalistic hud and environmental storytelling to bring the player into the life of Isaac Clarke, a simple engineer who's repeatedly tasked with combating a horrifying, zombie-like threat called the necropmorphs.

Over the years, Dead Space has shared a connection with Resident Evil, first taking inspiration from Capcom's horror series and then providing some of the blueprints for the format found in 2019's Resident Evil 2. Though the first game is now over 10 years old, Dead Space is still worth going back to--and if you're going to play the first game, you might as well see the entire trilogy all the way through.

Great series. Loved the 1st one when it came out. So far, it is still the best "horror" game to play come Halloween yearly. I really wish they'd bring back the franchise. 3 was good but too "action-y" for its own good. EA really knows how to screw up something great.

I already have 2 & 3. I had the first one when it was free on Gold, but they took it away for some reason, despite the fact that my Gold membership hasn't lapsed. But given the sale price, I guess I'll just buy it again.

Would you kindly make us whole?

It's been over 10 years since the original. They should have made a remastered by now. Plus Dead Space 3 sucked. I'll just buy 1 and 2.

I hate being a debbie downer as $15 is a great deal for the series. And what a great trilogy Dead Space is. But the third game was such a let down that it kinda sours the whole series and bad enough to taint the first two, because the third was supposed to lead upto a build up, an investment, but only at the end it tries to .. i guess wrap things up, and it does it so poorly.. what a let down.

One and Two amazingly defined the horror genre with some of the best set designs and physics. The third however was such notorious money grab that changed the whole formula around to make it more of an action piece on rails. Go grab a resource, come back, "come find us", then come back, etc etc etc etc. Also alot of the DLC, online, mp, and more feels useless and unwelcome. The first game and many horror games, there is a sense of isolation that instills fear. When you add another it takes much of that away. If fatal Frame also had another person 'competing' for kills or pics - would there be fear or sport??

If you have never played the series - then grab em, I hope you enjoy all three but if you only bought the first two and decided that was the true end of the series- you would be better off for it.

@jenovaschilld: Play the 3rd game w/a Co-Op partner -- utterly redeems the game. Genius gamedev there.

@Pyrosa: it does and it doesn't. While you solo, will give you that sense of isolation, the back tracking and feelings of on the rails and story acts throw you around without any satisfaction or meaning. Also with someone you have better loot, monsters, and bits more story, etc.

Capcom is making tons of money with remakes of RE nowadays, its beyond my mind why EA doesnt do remasters/remakes of Dead Space- or the Mass Effect-Trilogy.

@sladakrobot: Dead Space...meh, they tried to fill it with grubby multiplayer but it didn't take so they tossed it. Mass Effect...that's a real puzzler. You'd think they would want to bring back ME3's store.

If any series deserves a remaster, it's this.

@screamingsatori: I still think Mass Effect is a higher priority, but that's mostly because the Dead Space games still all hold up and look good. What this series needs is a sequel. Or a reboot, I don't care. Just make another Dead Space!

@mogan: I enjoyed the Mass Effect series, but not enough to go back and play them again. Maybe in another 10 years... I'm currently playing ME: Andromeda. While I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be, the game mechanics and structure feel very been-there-done-that, like it's Mass Effect by the numbers. I dunno, maybe I'm just burnt out on the series. But I do appreciate the fact that they finally added a jump button. That's something I always missed in the original trilogy.

@mogan: apparently pre-development of the next ME has begun at EA Edmonton (there is no such thing as Bioware anymore) while Austin is working on rebooting Anthem.

They both need remasters and reboots and/or sequels.

THIS GAME NEEDS A REBOOT OR SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR OF SOME SORT.

And so many potential improvements were left on the table. Nevermind just enhancing the suit. How about getting different suits that emphasized certain combat styles? Like one changes the plasma cutter into a legit plasma blade or one that focuses on regeneration or something. And how about implementing the various traps and terrain tricks like we saw in Evil Within? I'm sure those derelict ships and sci-fi cities had all sorts of traps you could trigger.

*Turns out there is an attempt at a spiritual successor in the works: Negative Atmosphere.

**Also discovered Turtlerock is developing a (not) sequel to Left 4 Dead called Back 4 Blood.
