Ghost Recon Online for Wii U 'on hold'
Ubisoft confirms entire development team at Shangahi studio focused exclusively on PC version of free-to-play shooter.
Ghost Recon Online for the Wii U has stalled. Speaking to Videogamer, Ubisoft producer Theo Sanders said the development team is no longer working on the free-to-play third-person shooter for Nintendo's new console, due out worldwide this holiday season.
"As of right now, the entire Ghost Recon team is focused on the PC version only," he said. "The Wii U version is on hold."
Sanders explained that the development team at Ubisoft Shanghai was at one point working on both versions of Ghost Recon Online simultaneously, but the studio wanted to have "all hands on deck" for the PC version.
"If in the future we have an opportunity to address it again, we'll make future announcements," Sanders said. "But as of right now we're focused completely on the PC version."
Ghost Recon Online was one of the first games announced for the Wii U at the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo. The free-to-play game launched on the PC last month through an open beta to a positive critical reception.
