Ghostbusters Director Says No to Rebooting Other Classics

The director of last month's Ghostbusters is not interested in rebooting another classic movie series. Paul Feig told The Huffington Post that he signed on for Ghostbusters under special circumstances and now he's happy to move back to original material.

"No, no, no. No, I will not," Feig said with laugh when asked if he would like to reboot another film series. "[Ghostbusters] was just too tempting because I knew we could do something with it that was exciting. A gender-bent sequel with cameos by all the original main cast members? Sure, that's pretty exciting. Or blasphemous, depending on your view."

As Feig alluded to, Ghostbusters drummed up some amount of controversy, one piece of which was about the film's female-focused cast. Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones played the lead roles, as compared to male actors Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson in the originals.

Sony Pictures, which produced the movie, welcomed the controversy around Ghostbusters and now a sequel is on the way. A direct sequel to Feig's movie is only part of an ongoing Ghostbusters franchise. A new animated show has already been announced. Titled Ghostbusters: Ecto Force, it is a futuristic series set in the year 2050 and is set for an early 2018 premiere.

Ghostbusters has made more than $179.5 million at the global box office against a reported $144 million production budget, according to Box Office Mojo. For more on the film, check out GameSpot's review and what other critics are saying.

As for Feig, one of his upcoming projects is a sequel to the 2015 Melissa McCarthy comedy Spy. Recently, Feig said one of the supporting characters from the original, played by Jason Statham, will be"even less self-aware" in the sequel.
