Ghostbusters Joins Lego Dimensions Alongside LOTR, Simpsons Open Worlds

Every franchise in the game will offer an open-world experience separate from the campaign, provided you own the proper figure.

Among what will likely end up being numerous expansion sets for Lego Dimensions, Ghostbusters is set to be one. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today revealed Ghostbusters-themed Lego figures and content for its upcoming toys-to-life game, as well as a new game mode that offers open-world environments themed around every franchise in the game.

Dimensions will be getting a pair of Ghostbusters "fun packs," one themed around Slimer and the other the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. The Slimer pack comes with a Slime Shooter weapon, while Stay Puft include a Terror Dog (based on Gozer's companions from the original Ghostbusters).

There will also be a Ghostbusters level pack that includes Lego versions of Peter Venkman (equipped with a proton pack), the Ecto-1, and a ghost trap. Buying the level pack also entitles you to, as the name suggests, a new level in the game. Pricing was not announced, but for a point of reference, the Portal level pack costs $30.

Alongside the Ghostbusters news, Warner Bros. has revealed Dimensions' Adventure Worlds. These are described as "open-world environments where players will be able to explore, race, collect gold bricks, unlock secrets, and explore classic locations." These are available alongside the main campaign, which plays out like a more flexible (but still linear) version of a typical Lego game.

There will be a world themed around every franchise included in the game, but you need to own a figure from that universe in order to access it. The starter pack's figures get you into Lord of the Rings (Gandalf), DC Comics (Batman), and The Lego Movie (Wyldstyle) worlds.

Based on the trailer above, these worlds may consist of dramatically different parts of a franchise--the Lord of the Rings world, for instance, looks to span everything from the Shire to Gondor to Mordor. In the case of The Simpsons, you'll get to explore a Lego version of Springfield.

Lego Dimensions is set for release on September 27 for Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and PS3. The starter pack is priced at $100.

As much as I love Ghostbusters, this just strikes me as a cheap cash-in.

Also, only Peter? Where's Ray, Egon, Winston, Janine, and hell, even Louis?

I'm pretty sure the Ghostbusters game will be more enjoyable than the new movie.

Who knew that collecting thousands of Lego bits in order to press A repeatedly to create a pre-rendered bridge could be so fun.

If only it's audience was old enough to know what a good game is.

Looks interesting but it would be nice to view any images without the adverts taking up such a large amount of space and making it hard to see the entire image

I hope each pack includes a beefy amount of content to justify buying all this stuff.
Of course, nobody is forcing me to buy anything, but Lego Dimen$$$$$$$$$ions...

@Javier: The starter park is at $100 with only 3 little worlds. Money wise it'll be worse than Disney Infinity. Wait until the first sales in January, you'll find the game and some packs at -50%.
