God Of War PS4 Gets Congratulations From Fellow Game Studios

Congratulatory tweets abound.

God of War launches today, and fellow developers are lining up to give Sony Santa Monica a pat on the back for the achievement. A series of tweets from studios like Insomniac and Naughty Dog have been offering their congratulations, some with custom artwork or cheeky photos to mark the event.

The revival of the long-dormant franchise has received critical acclaim, including from GameSpot's own God of War review. All of that has made it the highest-scoring PS4 exclusive on our sister site Metacritic. And in a moment of reaching across the console divide, Xbox boss Phil Spencer was among the first to offer his own congratulations last week as reviews first started breaking. In a nice reminder that real humans pour their blood and sweat into these games, game director Cory Barlog recorded an emotional video of himself seeing the review scores for the first time.

I mean come on, these other studios should give props, otherwise they look like that bitter dude that can produce something quality OR acknowledge someone else's success.

This is the result of Sony cultivating its first-party studios for the past 4 console generations, giving them the space, budget, and freedom to try different things. In an era where we have marketing mouth pieces claiming story-driven single player games are dead, it's clear that gamers still want more.

Congrats to Santa Monica you have done a fine job with the game. Well deserved and good to see other well respected game developers coming together in the congratulations, inspirational. Best news I've seen in a long time on gamespot and reminds me of why I still do play video games.

Developers showing serious bias. I will never buy their games ever again if I can resist. Why didn't they congratulate Rare for Sea of Thieves? Yes I know it's a content-less piece of repetitive garbage aimed for the pretentious cringe worthy Xbox Phil Spencer worshiping fanboys with nothing better to do in life than trying to convince themselves that playing pointless empty games alongside virtual friends is entertaining but still! this is highly unprofessional!

Phil Spencer also congratulated the release and reviews of God of War while crying over Sea of Thieves.

Well deserved, the game is awesome and you can tell it pushes the system for my PS4 Pro fan gets loud running it. I will get a 4k tv this June because I want to experience this game again with HDR and 4k. I'm currently playing it on a 1440p monitor with no hdr but it still looks beautiful.

@martintule24: Just a heads up, because I'm probably buying it myself... Vizio is releasing a Quantum Dot P-series tv (only in 65") this summer. They had it compared side by side with the 2018 LG oled C series and there was still a difference, but it was very minimal because the Vizio uses 192 Full Array Backlit Zones. The Vizio Quantum is on par with Samsung's high end QLED tv and costs $2,199.

All Vizios, except the cheap D series, have both Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10, along with HLG HDR, which is the HDR cable companies will use. The only HDR not supported, but could probably be patched in, is HDR10+ by Samsung. But Sony will not support that format ever. They're sticking with Dolby and HDR10.

The regular Vizio P-series (their highest end series) is still available and much cheaper than the Quantum. The 2018 65" regular P-series is $1,299.

TCL, who makes panels for a lot of tv companies, is coming out with their new 6-series, which is equivalent to the Vizio M-series (the 2nd best Vizio series). TCL is a Roku based operating system tv.

I'm a cable technician and see all types of tv's all day, every day. Vizio has come a very long way from the crap budget tv's they were 5 years ago. They still make affordable tv's with 4k HDR in the entry level E series, but their high end P series is a contender with the best of em.

Don't know your budget, but if you can swing $2,200 on a Vizio Quantum, I'd look into it. If you're looking for a solid performing low cost option, I'd look into the TCL 6-series. Oled has burn in issues. So I wouldn't go that route until that's taken care of. Happened to my friend with an LG oled C7.

@nibbin1191 just "decent" to you maybe, but those other games you listed are among the most acclaimed of the console generation. almost every sony 1st party game has been a major hit since i can remember...

@nibbin1191depends on who you talk to i guess. sony seems content in selling 5-10m copies of its games. other publishers like ea would not be happy with those numbers. considering sony is in the business of single player games without gimmicks and aimed at a more focused audience than say star wars battlefront, cod or battlefield, i'd say their sales numbers are very strong... strong enough to encourage sony to keep doing what it's doing. not every game needs to be a system seller... games such as shadow of the colossus remake, tearaway unfolded, last guardian, gravity rush 2 did not sell more than 2-3m copies, but sometimes that is ok, as it creates good will in satisfying a more niche audience. you need people of all tastes onboard and supporting your platform at the end of the day.

this much support and fanfare from around the industry is practically unheard of with most releases. god of war is something special and worth celebrating. i don't think red dead redemption 2 will sweep the goty awards as easily as some might have thought since it won't be able to tell a story half as captivating as god of war... artistically, rdr2 is also going to be lacking by comparison. if the gameplay is the same as the first entry in the series, rd2will not win due to a lack of innovation.

sony is the only publisher left making incredible single player, AAA games, with no mtx bullshit thrown in. for that reason alone, sony should be congratulated. we all know rdr2 will but filled to the brim with mtx nonsense so get ready for it.

Not a fan of the series but will probably buy once price drops to $20 since the combat has changed from the previous entries.

@hmoobpaladin: so you are not a fan of the series, yet you are bothered by the changes made to the combat in the recent game... that makes no sense at all, but thanks for sharing.

Here you are again trying to start shit. He clearly says that he is going to try this game BECAUSE the combat has changed from the previous games. Go to IGN if you want some dumb fanboy argument.
