God Of War Ragnarok Is Still On Track For Release This Year, Dev Assures Fans

No, the PS4 and PS5 action game has not been delayed to 2023.

Earlier this week, Sony Santa Monica gave a brief update on God of War Ragnarok, but the studio did not flat-out say the game remains on track for release in 2022. That being the case, some wondered if the PS4 and PS5 game has shifted to next year--but it has not.

Someone on Twitter asked Ragnarok animation director Bruno Velazquez for reassurance that the game is still on track for release in 2022, and Velazquez confirmed, "Ragnarok is coming this year." (via VGC)

Developer Cory Barlog gave an update on Raganrok earlier this week, saying everyone on the team is "heads-down, hard at work" on the project.

"We are perfectionists," Barlog said, adding that he hopes to be able to share more updates and insights into Ragnarok as soon as possible. "We don't want to hold any of this back. So please, hold tight--know that something cool is coming," he said.

Ragnarok was apparently originally going to launch in 2021, but Kratos actor Christopher Judge suffered an injury in 2019 that reportedly led to a delay to 2022.

Whenever it may launch, I will be pacing my room, wide-eyed until 12AM EST like a kid on Christmas Eve.

@shadow6323: Doubt it's 2023 some devs already moving on to other projects and said development is pretty done. Now they're just testing bugs.

I hope next year because this year's GOTY Elden Ring will snatch.

I hope the devs are ready for death threats and doxing if these entitled psychopaths don't get their way that's exactly what's going to happen if the game slips into next year

Yeah... it's coming this year, until it's not.

IMO is too late for the September period, since they are not yet ready to reveal more gameplay, and they keep avoiding to set a smaller launch period, not to mention an actual date.

And it's crazy to think Sony will launch a new release of it's biggest icon during the holydays, when gamers attention and money are split in so many directions.

It'll be delayed to 2023, most likely for polishing reasons... and it's gonna launch between March-May, like every God Of War title before it since 2005.

If it doesn't, Sony has absolutely nothing for Holidays for the second year in a row. Wtf.

@hardwenzen: Why is any of this a "WTF"? We are coming off of a panny, (which caused obvious delays), and we did actually get a few good exclusives from Sony last year.

And while Ragnarok could certainly push again, all we know right now is that they're still saying it's coming this year, (which would almost certainly be around holiday).

@thecupidstunts: You have no idea how much people ignore this pandemic. It's like the nagging wife of world political problems to some.

Not me, I keep my hand sanitizer, and my masks by the bed.

@illegal_peanut: I mean, regardless of anyone's personal beliefs regarding COVID, there's simply no disputing the fact that it absolutely disrupted game development, (among many other things). So it's not some huge thing that Sony didn't have a killer title for holiday 2021.
