God of War Ragnarok's PSN PC Requirement Removed By Modder, But Only Briefly

Since Sony hasn't dropped the PSN requirement from God of War Ragnarok's PC port, a modder took actions into their own hands.

God of War Ragnarok finally made the leap from PlayStation 5 to PC earlier this month. And while fans love the game itself, they're much less enthusiastic about Sony's edict that forces PC users to connect to PlayStation Network just to experience the title. That's already led Ragnarok's PC release to get review-bombed on Steam by unhappy gamers. And now, a modder has already come up with a way to sidestep Sony's restriction--but it didn't take long for the mod to be taken offline.

As reported by IGN, a modder who goes by iArtorias has released the NoPSSDK mod that removes the PSN linking restriction and essentially gives God of War Ragnarok an offline mode. Additionally, iArtorias left a promise on their Nexus Mods page to "try to maintain the tool even if something changes, but hopefully nothing crucial happens."

Given Sony's refusal to bend on the subject, it's almost inevitable that the company will counter iArtorias' mod and any others that remove the PSN requirement. It appears that may have already happened, as Nexus Mods said the mod was taken offline by its creator--and the website was not told why.

But it's unclear why Sony put that in Ragnarok in the first place since the game is only a single-player title. It makes more sense to utilize PSN for multiplayer games that actually need to be online. There's no apparent reason why Ragnarok has to be subject to the same restrictions.

Sony previously showed some willingness to compromise when it dropped the PSN requirement for Helldivers 2 after a backlash. However, the upcoming remake of Until Dawn will also be subject to a mandatory PSN connection. This issue is likely to be an ongoing irritation for gamers if Sony keeps insisting on adding the PSN requirement to future PC games.

Nice work. As for the comments discussion, I don't think it's possible to make a mod removing a company from having contributed to a game's development...?

So weird to me how every game seems to require an account now, but it's only Sony that people complain about.

@adrardohan: You don't even know what Sweet Baby has even done in games they are involved in. You just joined in on the hate not even know what it is really about.

@Legato-and-Vash: to zap the fun out of games and lecture you 🤦

No thank you I can see all this and what they put in. We don't need consultancy groups in our games.so glad game science told them no a lot of other companies are saying no to. We all see the damage they have done 👍

@Legato-and-Vash: lol you see it in their site, they utterly destroyed games once they leave the game is not the game the Devs made. They have made companies go bust anything else? Oh yea scare them in to giving you what you want..... There's laws against that.
